What Do Cowboys-n-Campfires Have in Common?

I bet you're wondering where the heck this articles going. After all what could cowboys-n-campfires have in common? Well lots actually!</p><p>Cowboys are full of wonderful tales from their travels and their work. Campfires are a wonderful place to listen to tales whether from a cowboy or shared among a group of friends over an ice cold beer and a star filled sky.</p><p>There's another commonality. In earlier times cowboys spent a great deal of time sleeping under the clear star filled skies. They enjoyed the peace and tranquility of the universe as they stopped to rest for their night from a long day of moving cattle across the country.</p><p>Today campfires are one of the few times we get to appreciate the dark night skies with the twinkling stars. It's one of the few times we stop and appreciate what a wonderful universe we live in. In the city most of the beauty of the night sky is washed out by the ambient light.</p><p>Cowboys-n-campfires share something else ? the big C. Now I bet your wondering what the heck the big C is? The big C stands for a few things Character, Charm, Cause, Caution, Cheerful, and Chatting.</p><p>Both a cowboy and a campfire have character and charm. Depending on the mood of both determines what part of their character we see. A cowboy can be angry but so can a campfire. I'm sure you've heard your fire sizzling and popping. A cowboy can be charming and so can your campfire. Remember sitting beside it watching the gentle orange and red flames flutter ? so charming.</p><p>A cowboy and a campfire both have a cause. The cowboys job is to herd the cattle from point a to point b. The campfires job is to help you relax and to keep you warm. It's also their to cook a meal, prepare a pot of coffee, or enjoy a marshmallow or two.</p><p>A cowboy and campfire share caution. A cowboy needs to exercise caution when he herds the cattle. There are many dangers he will face. A campfire requires your attention and caution as there are many dangers it can cause. A fire can burn someone, and it can spread and cause a forest fire if not properly put out.</p><p>A cowboy and campfire are both cheerful. A cowboy can be heard whistling a happy tune as he carries out his duties. He always seems to have a smile on his face. Next time you go by a campfire take note of the mood of the people around it. Cheerful of course! As they all relax and share good conversation and good friends.</p><p>Cowboys and campfires share chatting. Cowboys chat among themselves as they carry out their duties. They even chat with their old friend their dog, and now and then you'll hear them chatting to the herd. The campfire is the ultimate place to relax and chat with both old and new friends. It's a place to enjoy great conversation.</p><p>So you see cowboys-n-campfires have a lot in common! Be sure to check them both out sometime soon!</p><p>Tom Strayhorn is one of the few real cowboys left so why not saddle up and come visit him at <a target="_new" href="http://www.cowboys-n-campfires.com/">Cowboys-n-Campfires</a>

Kenya Safari Top Five National Parks

The Kenya safari circuit is one of the best in Africa containing national parks and game reserves that consistently provide great wildlife sightings and experiences coupled with high quality accommodation.</p><p>But within the country itself there are certain areas that are better than others to safari in.</p><p>So, according to the trip reports received at African Safari Journals, forums, my twenty plus years of personal safari experience and the general consensus in the safari industry, these are the top five national parks to visit on your Kenya safari...</p><p>1. <b><a target="_new" href="http://www.african-safari-journals.com/masai-mara.html">Masai Mara Reserve</a></b></p><p>Along with the Serengeti in Tanzania, this is without a doubt the premier game viewing destination in Africa because of the quality and quantity of wildlife sightings to be found here.</p><p>This sometimes works against it because in certain places it can be overrun with tourist in safari vehicles all jostling for the best position around a bemused lion pride or leopard in a tree.</p><p>But if predators are what you seek from a Kenya safari then this reserve will deliver them in spades in the form of lion, cheetah, hyena and even regular leopard sightings if you know the right areas.</p><p>And of course the massive wildebeest migration where up to a million of these ugly antelope trek north from the Serengeti plains across the river into the Masai Mara to find fresher grazing is an awesome spectacle.</p><p>Between July and August (reliant on seasonal rains) is the time to find the wildebeest in this area.</p><p>Taking a hot air balloon ride over the plains which is a magical experience and you are spoiled with a champagne breakfast when you land.</p><p><b>2. Samburu NP</b></p><p>On a Samburu Kanya safari you will notice that the area is a lot drier and hotter than parks to the south due to the climate warming and the only thing that saves this park from being completely arid is the Ewaso Ngiro river which runs through it.</p><p>This river will provide you with lots of wildlife sightings because the animals are drawn to it to drink and the park is relatively small which concentrates the animals and makes them easy to find.</p><p>The conditions have spawned some wildlife that are particularly suited to this area like the gerenuk which looks like a cross between a giraffe and an antelope because of its long neck, gravy's zebra (stripes don't go all the way under the belly) and reticulated giraffe which have a geometric pattern on their coat unlike other giraffes.</p><p>And then there are the leopards which seem to make a habit of moving around during the day unlike other areas where they are mostly nocturnal.</p><p><b>3. Aberdares NP</b></p><p>This park is set in the Aberdares mountain range which ensures that it has thick woodland forests, waterfalls and ice cold streams filled with trout contained within its boundaries.</p><p>It is home to two well known treehouse hotels, the Ark and Treetops, which have walkways and accommodation raised above the ground beside floodlit waterholes with salt licks. You don't need to go on a drive to find wildlife on a safari here because they come to you.</p><p>All you have to do is stay close to the waterholes at the lodges and you will see elephant, lion, hyena, various antelope and rhino. There is also a viewing hide below ground level which gives you some unique views as the animals quench their thirst.</p><p>And after a strenuous days Kenya safari wildlife viewing from the platforms with a drink in your hand, you can go back to your room with the confident knowledge that if a particularly good sighting is going on at the waterhole like a leopard, lion or hyena you will be alerted by a bell (one ring for lion, two for leopard etc) which will ensure you don't miss any of the action.</p><p>If you are tempted to go on a game drive you might spot the elusive bongo antelope and some of the monkeys that make their home in the Aberdare forest.</p><p><b>4. Amboseli NP</b></p><p>Situated close to Kilimanjaro this national park will afford you some awesome views of elephant, giraffe, hippo and antelope with the majestic snow topped mountain as a backdrop.</p><p>Streams from the mountain feed swamp areas which support a rich variety of wildlife and birds such as pelicans, bee-eaters, eagles and kingfishers.</p><p>It doesn't have the regularity and consistency for predator sightings that a Kenya safari in the Mara provides but lion, leopard and cheetah are seen as well as old bull elephants with some of the biggest ivory tusks in Africa.</p><p>Rhino used to be found in this area but unfortunately they are now extinct due to poaching activity.</p><p><b>5. Tsavo East and West NP's</b></p><p>This is the largest national park in Kenya and is divided into Tsavo West which is the most developed part and East where some of the land is accessible but the rest is off limits to the public due to poaching.</p><p>If you are looking to get away from the masses of tourists and do your wildlife viewing in relative isolation and peace then a Kenya safari in Tsavo is a good place to do it.</p><p>There have been over 500 species of bird recorded in Tsavo west including the migratory species so this provides a visual feast for birders.</p><p>Ngulia Rhino Sanctuary gives you the opportunity to spot the scarce and temperamental black rhino (42 recorded) in 70 sq kilometres surrounded by electric fence for their protection.</p><p>The underwater viewing chamber at Mzima Springs will give you an insight into what hippos do underwater and you will spot a number of other species of game there all attracted by the life giving water.</p><p>Find out who the <a target="_new" href="http://www.african-safari-journals.com/safari-companies.html">Top Three Kenya safari companies</a> are to help you choose the best operator to guide your own trip to Kenya.</p><p>Learn from the <a target="_new" href="http://www.african-safari-journals.com/kenya-safari.html">Kenya Safari trip reports</a> of previous travellers to the game reserves and national parks there and find out what they experienced.

Alaska Hunting Guide

WHAT TO HUNT AND WHERE: Alaska is a hunter's paradise. Hunting here can provide the full scope of experiences- from caribou to deer and moose, from grizzly and brown bears to wolves, from Dall sheep and mountain goats to muskox, from waterfowl to ptarmigan and several grouse species. Diverse Alaska geographic areas offer adventure for everyone, give us various choices:</p><p>Interior Alaska. From mountains and rolling hills, river valleys covered with forests to the vast spaces of treeless tundra at higher altitudes and in the far north. Temperaure varies greatly throughout the year, from -50 Celsius (-58 Fahrenheit) in the winter months to +30 Celsius (+86 Fahrenheit) during summers. There are just a few highways in the interior part of Alaska. Most of the area can only be reached by plane, boat or by foot. Summer is warm but short. Climate and landscape conditions provide variety of big game: moose and cariboo, Dall sheep in the mountains, some wild bison, muskox in the arctic Alaska, wolves, black and grizzly bears, waterfowl, some grouse and ptarmigan.</p><p>Southeast (the narrow and long part between the Pacific ocean and Canada). Consists of mainland and many treed mountainous islands along the coast. The main hunting trophies here are brown and black bears, moose and mountain goats, black-tailed deer and wolves . Guided hunting is done mostly by boat, the most popular hunting spots are on the islands in the central part of the area.</p><p>South and Southwest (to the south and west of the Yukon river). Mountainous inland with many rivers and lakes, ragged coastal line dotted with numerous islands. The region offers a wide variety of game: deer, Dall sheep, caribou, moose, wolves, wolverine, brown and black bear, waterfowl, grouse species.</p><p>ALASKA GENERAL HUNTING REGULATIONS:</p><p>If you hunt in a general season, which is open to an unlimited number of hunters, you will need a harvest ticket. Harvest tickets are available at no cost where hunting licenses are sold. Non-residents are required to have a big game tag for the species they are hunting. Some remote rural areas may not have licenses available or the vendor may run out of harvest tickets. Be sure to purchase your license, game tags, and pick up harvest tickets before you leave home or a population center. When a population of animals is too small and/or the potential number of hunters too large to allow a general season or a registration hunt, the Department may offer drawing permits. A Drawing Permit Hunt Supplement is published every May. The drawing for permit hunts is held in early summer, and everyone who applies will be notified of the results by mail or can locate the results on the Alaska Department of Fish and Game's website. The Supplement contains all of the drawing hunts by number for all big game species. Most of the drawing permit hunts are open to both resident and nonresident hunters. A hunter may apply for three drawing permit hunts for each species. A fee is charged for each separate hunt. You can pick up a Supplement at any Fish and Game office, on the website, or at license vendors.</p><p>Hunting permit applications and forms can be downloaded off the Internet and printed out. You can also purchase hunting licences, duck stamps, big game tags online, print them at home and you may go hunting or trapping right away. Complete Alaska Hunting Regulations Guide can be found here. The basic non-resident hunting licence costs $85 plus some extra fees for big game tags.</p><p>HUNTING GUIDES: Nonresidents may hunt moose, caribou, deer, and black bear without a guide. Hunters who are not Alaska residents must be accompanied by a registered Alaskan guide or they must hunt with close relatives within the second-degree of kindred who are Alaska residents when hunting brown or grizzly bears, Dall sheep or mountain goats. You can search online for licenced big game guides in your area. The best guides deliver 80-100 percent for most big game species. In addition, guides are familiar with their areas and possess equipment that the average hunter might not care to purchase for one time use. However, a guide's knowledge, experience and equipment do not come cheaply. Although figures vary from guide to guide, expect to spend $8,000-$12,000 for a brown/grizzly bear hunt, $4,000-$6,000 for a sheep hunt and $1,500-$3,000 for a goat hunt. Moose and caribou are often part of a mixed-bag hunt and prices vary considerably. The best way to find a reliable guide is by references.</p><p>AIRCRAFT CHARTERS: Many hunters choose an air charter service to fly in to prime hunting areas to hunt these species. The air charter operator is licensed by the state to charge for flying hunters and their game meat. The drop-off hunt is less expensive than a guided or outfitted hunt because the air charter takes care of transportation and may throw in some planning tips. The hunter provides all of the camp gear and performs all other functions on his own. Before you contract with an air charter operator, you should have a clear understanding of the costs of services and know exactly which services to expect. Prices and services vary considerably. Air charter operators may charge a flat rate or by the hour for flight time. When calculating costs on an hourly rate, you have to take into account &quot;dead-head&quot; time, the time a pilot spends flying back to base after dropping you off and the time spent flying out to pick you up. Again, be sure to ask whether the package includes flying out the meat and antlers. Some package deals also include being checked on at least once during the hunt to bring out game or move you if you haven't been successful. The cost of air charters also depends on the size of the plane and the number of hunters sharing the cost. Make sure you explain the number of hunters in your group and the amount of gear you will have. You can search online for licenced transporters in your area. Check also this extensive list of Alaska Aircraft Charters, Bush Pilots, Air Taxis.</p><p>WEATHER: Alaskan summers are cool, the average temperature is +14 deg.C (58 F) in summer and -12 deg.C (11 F) in winter but it can vary greatly between different regions of the state. Winters are cold and dark. Early spring can be cold, but often days warm to above freezing with a lot of sunshine. It receives midnight sunshine during the part of summer and goes into 24-hour darkness during the part of winter. Summers are the wettest time of the year, south regions are well known for their dampness. You can check next week weather forecast for Anchorage here.</p><p>GETTING THERE: You can fly to Anchorage direct or one-stop from most major US cities. From there Alaska Aircraft Charters, Bush Pilots, Air Taxis will help you to explore America's greatest playground. Many small villages and towns have all weather airports and served daily by small air carriers. LODGING: Depending on your preferences it can be a small camping tent or a luxurious hunting lodge with all modern conveniences and comfort. There are also some primitive cabins for private use maintained by government. These can accomodate 4 to 8 people, cost from $20 to $50 (USD) per night and have to be reserved in advance, ususally- a month. You need to contact the proper agency directly to book a cabin.</p><p>TRAVEL TIPS: Northern weather can be unpredictable. Consider taking with you and wearing multiple layers of clothes in response to a wide variety of temperatures and weather conditions. Obtain detailed maps of the area beforehand. Do not forget to pack first-aid and survival kits as well as bear repellents. Be sure you check available information, understand all the guidelines for hunting in Alaska before you leave home.</p><p>We wish you a successful and safe trip!</p><p>For more travel guides and online trip reservations visit us: <a target="_new" href="http://www.travelmake.com">http://www.travelmake.com</a> - one of leading discount travel agencies, a source of useful travel information.

Hiking Shoes Versus Hiking Boots

Hiking shoes versus hiking boots? Hiking shoes win. Okay, next issue? No, really. Hiking or running shoes are better for most backpacking trips, at least during late spring, summer and early fall. Boots are heavy, hot, stinky, and stay wet forever. A pound on your feet is like five on your back (some say six), so three-pound boots leave you much more tired at the end of the day.</p><p><b>Hiking Shoes And Ankle Support</b></p><p>You may have heard arguments for the necessity of ankle support, but throughout history people managed without stiff ankle-supporting boots. The problem is weak ankles, not a lack of support. You can solve this by walking a little each week on uneven ground (not in the mall).</p><p>Some may need boots, but be sure your ankle problems are not just due to a lack of exercise before you settle for backpacking in hiking boots. You may also need hiking boots if you carry more than thirty pounds when you backpack. Cut the weight down, though, and you'll be more comfortable anyhow.</p><p><b>Why Running Or Hiking Shoes?</b></p><p>Feet stay cooler in a good running shoes than in hiking boots. This means fewer blisters. After switching to running shoes and lightweight socks years ago, I stopped getting blisters. I don't mean fewer blisters. I mean haven't had one blister since I switched. Not even after a 110-mile 7-day trek in the Rockies, for example.</p><p><b>How To Choose Your Shoes</b></p><p>Try to keep below two pounds per pair, unless you have size 13 feet. If the weights are not shown in a catalog, you'll have to guess which hiking shoes are lighter based on the description and photo. Quality shoes have soles stitched to the uppers, so look under the insoles (a removable insole is another sign of quality shoes). You can usually find a good pair of running shoes that weighs less than 28 ounces for under $80, or half of that on closeouts.</p><p>There's nothing quite as liberating as ditching the heavy pack and heavy boots and hitiing the trail in running shoes. You get to go more miles, and in comfort. You get to run up a hill just to see what's there. I have yet to meet a person who has tried backpacking in hiking shoes or running shoes - and then returned to boots.</p><p>Steve Gillman is a long-time backpacker, and advocate of ultralight backpacking. Visiting Plitvice Lakes National Park

If anyplace on earth is a natural paradise, Plitvice Lakes National Park in Croatia is that place. Of all Croatia's eight National Parks, Plitvice is the oldest and most visited. It's easy to see why. Bears and wolves lurk in its primeval forest; schools of silvery fish dart through its pristine rivers; its beech trees are a cacophony of chattering birds. The crown jewels are the 16 translucent lakes connected to each other by a breathtaking series of cascades. Dazzling as the Plitvice national park appeared on a recent visit, I couldn't help recalling that this exceptional site was a war zone during the breakup of former Yugoslavia.</p><p>Located near Croatia's then- disputed border with Bosnia-Hercegovina, the park's troubles began in 1991 when the Yugoslav army seized the park and turned it into an army barracks. The Croatian army forced them out in 1995 but, a year later, the effects of war were everywhere. The area surrounding the park was a nightmarish landscape of bombed out houses and abandoned farms. The park's three hotels were shot to pieces and part of the lake system was closed while specialists removed mines from the falls and forests.</p><p>Shaking off the aura of gloom, I set out to tour the park that UNESCO had named a world heritage site. Even with only half the park open, I was soon entranced.</p><p>Miles of wooden walkways wound over, under and alongside the falls. From merry two-foot bubblers to long walls laced with foam, the falling water was everywhere. I resolved to return one day when the park had been rebuilt.</p><p>It happened that my grand return to Plitvice occurred this year at the end of a long, hard winter in central Croatia. Although I had visions of tranquil lakes shimmering under a blue sky the weather turned out to be cold, foggy and damp. But damp is good in Plitvice. Between the melting winter snow and days of rain, much of the park was a roaring mass of water. Water pounded into swollen lakes, flooded out the walkways and splashed through the trees. It was splendid.</p><p>Even better was the lack of other visitors. In the intervening nine years, Plitvice Lakes National Park has become Croatia's busiest tourist attraction welcoming some 750,000 tourists a year. Nearly all come in July and August. &quot; Please tell people to come in spring and autumn, if they can&quot; my guide begged me. The newly renovated hotels are now completely booked up in the summer and the walkways are elbow to elbow with camera clickers.</p><p>Although missing the summer greenery, I quickly grew to appreciate the bare trees that allowed an unobstructed view of the lakes and falls. It was clear that the lake system is divided into four lower and twelve upper lakes. Just past the main entrance, the Korana River drops a torrent of water 258 feet into a frothing pool that begins the lower lakes. Lying at the bottom of a canyon, the narrow lower lakes are bordered by steep limestone walls and climb like a giant staircase to the upper lakes. Wider and surrounded by dense forest, the upper lakes lie on a bed of dolomite. At the very top, the White and Black rivers are the spigots that water the park. The high mineral content of the lakes explains their extraordinary colors, which range from day-glow green to deep azure.</p><p>Examining the crystalline water of the top lake, I noticed that the leaves and branches settled on the bottom were acquiring a metallic coating. It was the travertine process in action. The water absorbs minerals from the dolomite underlying the upper lakes and coats the plant life, turning it to porous travertine stone. The new travertine sprouts moss and plants that again petrify and the process repeats itself. All the barriers separating the upper lakes are composed of travertine constantly growing and changing shape.</p><p>If you go to Plitvice, you don't need to stay long enough to turn to travertine but the park merits more time than it usually gets. Lying about 85 miles north of Zadar and south of Zagreb, many people rush through the park on their way to or from the coast. It's possible to see a lot of waterfalls in three or four hours but you'll need a number of days to fully explore the trails. The three-star Hotel Jezero is the best of the park's three hotels but there are plenty of small pensions and private rooms in the villages around the park.</p><p>Jeanne Oliver has written all three editions of Lonely Planet's Croatia guidebook. New Technologies in Camping and Outdoor Clothing Enhance the Outdoor Experience

Camping is an excellent way to explore and experience the outdoors. The weather needn't be an obstacle to what sorts of climates and places you might trek to. Outdoor clothing has become incredibly innovative in its designs and features, allowing the adventurous at heart to know no limits. Following is information all outdoor enthusiasts should read before investing in outerwear.</p><p>Given so many choices it is necessary to do a little research before making your clothing purchase, this way you are only buying the pieces you will need, therefore essentially getting your money's worth. The following suggestions should be helpful for any outdoor enthusiast. A popular term you will hear mentioned in today's clothing features is waterproof-breathable technologies. This technology strives to keep liquid water (precipitation) out of the garment interiors, while allowing the moisture vapor (perspiration) to escape out of the wearer's clothing.</p><p>There are three major waterproof-breathable technologies which are <b>microporous laminates, microporous coatings</b> and <b>monolithic membranes.</b> The microporous laminates contain millions of pores which allow for molecules of water vapor to pass out, but not allowing for water to enter. The microporous coatings act in the same way by letting water vapors pass out but not allowing vapor to enter. The monolithic membranes absorb moisture vapor directly into its structure, in turn heat from your body drives the moisture through the membrane towards the outer surface. The amazing thing about the monolithic membrane is that as you work harder the membrane absorbs and exhales more vapor.</p><p>One of the popular face fabrics for outdoor clothing of the past has been nylon; it has been a preferred fabric because of both its waterproof and breathable features and its abrasion resistance for rugged use. <b>But today's newly designed polyesters are closing the gap.</b> Polyester is popular because it only absorbs about a tenth as much water as does nylon. This is wonderful as it keeps the inside surface of the garment warmer, while reducing the interior condensation. The great thing about the new polyesters is they are naturally repellent without having to use spray on repellents that eventually wash off.</p><p>Knowing about the popular fabrics used today and why they work is important in making some of your outdoor clothing selections, but if needing any clothing that will be used for cold or extremely cold conditions you will need to know what clothing insulations will best suit you and the conditions you might be facing. Firstly is down filling. <b>Down filling</b> has been around forever and is still one of the most popular choices. It is unbelievably light, compact and durable. It moulds to your body helping to keep you warm while absorbing any moisture; however down is not a good choice if you will be in constantly damp cold or wet snow conditions.</p><p>Next are the <b>synthetic fills.</b> There are different types of synthetic fills available, some of which are much heavier and bulkier than down but will not collapse when wet. Some of the special synthetic fills are specially treated to resist moisture penetration while still keeping you warm if wet.</p><p>After you've done a bit of research and familiarized yourself with some of the fabric technologies available, you will next want to know exactly what you will be doing and what sort of weather you can expect. For people interested in adventures such as mountaineering, skiing, ice climbing and other backcountry sports, you will want an excellent jacket offered in one of the waterproof-breathable designs offered. These jackets should offer protection from extreme wind, snow, and rain while still keeping you comfortable. Along with a great jacket you will want to select a compatible pair of pants which will also offer you protection from the elements.</p><p>When shopping for your clothing you will notice for more extreme conditions there will be <b>three-ply garments</b> which consist of an outer face fabric, a membrane and protective backer, whereas the two-ply garments are more for general use with a lighter liner instead of the knitted inner backing.</p><p>The waterproof-breathable designs are excellent for people constantly moving, because of the movement you really need something that breathes. Now on the other hand for people doing outdoor activity where they are making frequent stops or standing around for periods of time they will need outerwear that is insulated to keep them warm. These particular designs come in various synthetic and down fills in a variety of weights and shell materials. The design appropriate for you is again dependant on what sort of activities you'll be doing.</p><p>Now for the people who might not be venturing into quite as extreme conditions they may just need jackets and pants that protect them from the wind. Windwear is not to be confused with rainwear, but is to be used for cool, windy, damp conditions. For outdoor activities such as backcountry skiing and hiking, windwear provides water-resistance in breathable fabrics.</p><p>Regardless of what sort of camping or outdoor activities you may do, <b>having proper rainwear is essential when spending time in the wilderness.</b> Having great rain gear such as jackets, pants and hats can make what might have been a bad weather experience and allow for your trip to go on. Excellent rainwear today offers features such as water repellent finishes, fully taped seams, cinched ankle cuffs and reflective trims for safety. Rainwear designs really make hiking in the rain a comfortable pleasure.</p><p>One of the most versatile pieces of clothing offered is those made of fleece. <b>Fleece</b> is light in weight, warm even when the weather is wet, and can be used for either a mid-layer or outer layer. Usually used for insulation, fleece also will pick up moisture from the surface of your underwear moving it outwards to keep you dry. Fleece is an excellent addition to any outdoor wardrobe, combined with a two or three ply jacket, windwear or rainwear; it provides added warmth and comfort. Fleece is available in heavyweight, midweight and lightweight options.</p><p>Modern underwear is another outdoor clothing option that has improved with time. New polyester blends not only provide needed insulation from the elements but keeps perspiration away from your body while in motion. Unlike cotton, the new fabrics make perspiration evaporate quickly keeping you warm and comfortable.</p><p>There are so many outdoor clothing options available. The above mentioned pieces of clothing serve well for protection from all of the elements. There is also clothing available for trekking such as shirts, pants, shorts and t-shirts. Again what is wonderful about all the clothing choices is the excellent fabrics used. Fabrics that dry quickly, keep moisture away, and provide stain, odor and wrinkle resistance.</p><p>Lastly, we cannot forget the great clothing accessories that keep our head, hands and feet warm and protected. Gloves available for ice climbing, mountaineering and skiing in waterproof, windproof and breathable fabrics. Gloves, hats and socks that provide excellent warmth and comfort for any weather condition.</p><p>Whatever the outdoor activity you are planning, whether it be ice climbing, mountaineering, snowboarding, hiking or just a simple walk outside, the wonderful fabrics and designs offered in outdoor clothing today can make your experience a comfortable one. Given so many clothing choices and designs, it truly gives adage to the saying that <b>&quot;there is no bad weather just bad clothing&quot;.</b></p><p><b>Best Camping Supplies</b> is a camping site owned and operated by Valerie Giles. Traveling To and Around Hawaii, A First-Time Visitors Primer

Six different islands in Hawaii are open to tourism. Most first-timers planning a trip to one or more than one island have numerous questions relating to where exactly to go and how exactly to get there. This primer will answer those questions.</p><p>All interisland flights are through Hawaiian Airlines, Aloha Airlines, or Island Air. Best prices will usually be through the website or through your mainland flight company.</p><p>Oahu is the hub of Hawaii transportation. Most mainland and International flights will fly into the Honolulu International Airport (HNL). Travelers heading on to another island may have to deplane and get on an interisland flight to reach their final destination. The airport is located on the outskirts of Honolulu, about a 20 minute drive to Waikiki, and about a 45 minute drive to the North Shore. There are no ferries from Oahu to any other island.</p><p>Maui has three airports. The major airport is Kahalui Airport (OGG) which allows direct flights from the West coast of the U.S. mainland. The drive from the airport to Kihei or Wailea is less than half an hour, but can take an hour to Lahaina or Kaanapali. Much closer to the Lahaina area is Kapalua Airport (JHM) but you can only fly there from Honolulu. Hana (HNM) also has an airport if you don't want to drive, but you'll be taking a very small plane. Check with Pacific Wings. You can normally find day ferries from Maui to Lanai and Molokai.</p><p>The Big Island (named Hawaii, but called the Big Island to avoid confusion) has two airports, Hilo International Airport (ITO), and Keahole Airport (KOA). These two airports are a 2.5 hour drive from each other. Hilo is closest to Honokaa, Kapoho, and Volcano. Keahole is in Kailua-Kona which is closest to all of Kona, Puako, Kohala, Waikoloa, and Waimea. There are direct flights from the mainland only to Keahole. There are no ferries from the Big Island to any other island.</p><p>Kauai has one airport, Lihue Airport (LIH), in Lihue, and you can find direct flights from the mainland on some carriers. Lihue is about halfway to everything on the island - but a bit closer to Poipu than Princeville. There are no ferrys from Kauai to any other island.</p><p>Molokai has one airport, Molokai Airport (MKK) in central Molokai. You will probably have to take a small airplane in, usually no bigger than a 20 seater. Island Air will fly you in from Honolulu or Kahului. Tamil Nadu ? A potpourri of culture and festivity

Tamil Nadu is a delightful anachronism. With a rich culture reaching back to the early dawn of history, the land of Temples is also a modern developing state. Tamil Nadu, Jewel of the South, is well known as a tourist destination in India. With a past brimming with superior cultural and artistic achievements, tourists flock to Tamil Nadu mainly for its historical heritage. But there's more? Traveling to Chennai, dashing capital of Tamil Nadu, tourists see a modern city, impressive as well as eminently livable. Besides, Tamil Nadu also has its fair share of great beaches, nature, wildlife, good food, festivals and fun.</p><p>History of Tamil Nadu</p><p>Tamil Nadu's history reaches back to the earliest annals of pre-Aryan India. The earliest Tamilians were descendents of the Dravidian race and the remnants of their early civilization excavated at Mohanjo Daro and Harappa, in North- Western India testify to a highly developed society and culture. Invading Aryans caused them to retreat further South into Peninsular India in today's Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and of course Tamil Nadu. Here they settled and prospered, practiced statesmanship, built temples, pursued academics, wrote literature, composed music and poetry and gave rise to one of the oldest and most refined cultures of India.</p><p>Tamil Nadu - Land of Temples</p><p>Over 30, 000 temples have earned Tamil Nadu the sobriquet of &quot; The Land of the Temples&quot;. Built over generations, by successive rulers of the Chola, Pallava, Pandya and Chera dynasties, Tamil Nadu's temples nevertheless bear a close resemble to each other in terms of their physical features. The impressive tower over the entrance, or gopuram, the tower over the sanctum or vimanam and the central hall are common features across diverse architectural styles ? a reflection of the highly defined and precise rules governing the building of temples.</p><p>Grander and more imposing than their North Indian counterparts, the temples of South India served as more than mere buildings for the worship of the deities housed there. Tamil Nadu's temples were integral to the social fabric of the towns where they stood. Serving as public halls, schools and centers of learning, they played a role in the commemoration of important religious, social and political events. Besides they doubled as granaries, storage rooms and hospitals? From the perspective of tourism, Tamil Nadu's temples served as fountainheads of the spiritual and artistic endeavor of the Tamil people.</p><p>Dedicated to important deities of the Hindu Pantheon such as Siva, Vishnu, their consorts Parvati and Lakshmi, as also Vinayak, Subramanya or Muruga, the Gods are worshipped with different names according to legends connected with the origin of the temples: Siva is Ramanathaswamy ? 'He who is worshipped by Rama' at Rameswaram, and Nataraja ? 'Cosmic Dancer' at Chidambaram.</p><p>In Tamil Nadu Siva is worshipped as the five elements: Space in Chidambaram, Water in Tiruvanaikkaval, Fire in Tiruvannamalai, Earth in Kanchipuram and Air in Sri Kalahasti (Andhra Pradesh). Vishnu, often referred to in Tamil Nadu as Varadaraja Perumal and Ranganarthaswamy is worshipped as himself, as also through temples dedicated to his incarnations, Rama and Krishna.</p><p>Temples devoted to the consorts of the above Gods include the twin temples of Meenakshi and Sundareswarar at Madurai and the Kamakshi temple at Kanchi. Besides, temples dedicated to the elephant headed Ganpati or Ganesh, also known as Vigneswara or Pillayar, his younger brother Subramanya 'Lord of the Mountains' and other lesser deities are also found in Tamil Nadu.</p><p>Saivism and Vaishnavism, the two most elemental sects of Hinduism occur in Tamil Nadu, though, as elsewhere in India, this division is becoming more and more fuzzy.</p><p>Natural Wonders of Tamil Nadu</p><p>Ancient settlers in Tamil Nadu categorized the region into 5 different physiogeographic features: Kurinji or the mountainous region, Mullai or forests, Palai or the arid zone, Marudham or fertile lands and Neidhal or coastal belt.</p><p>The Eastern and Western Ghats, ancient hill ranges, meet in Tamil Nadu, bestowing the state with some of the most ravishing hill stations of the South including Ooty, Kodaikanal, Kothagiri and Yercaud.</p><p>Denser and enjoying more rain, the Western Ghats are thickly forested besides having tea, coffee and spice plantations. On the other hand, Yercaud, in the comparatively rocky, barren Eastern Ghats also offers fruit orchards and coffee plantations.</p><p>Travelers to the Western Ghats can also visit Tamil Nadu's major wildlife sanctuaries including the Mudumalai and Annamalai Wildlife Sanctuaries, home to elephants, gaur, deer monkeys and tigers. On a different note are Tamil Nadu's extensive mangrove forests comprising excellent bird sanctuaries such as Lake Pulicat and Vedanthangal.</p><p>Besides boosting Tamil Nadu's tourism, the forests are also home to abundant reserves of medicinal herbs including Cinchona, which gives quinine for treating malaria and eucalyptus whose oil has healing properties. Also, Palmyrah trees grow thickly in Tamil Nadu while rubber is a major crop in parts of Tamil Nadu including Kannyakumari. The Javadhu hills near Vellore yield another highly sought after botanical wonder ? the sandalwood tree.</p><p>Tamil Nadu's fertile plains are fed by rivers such as Cauvery, Palar, Pennar, Vaigai and Tamiraparani. The ever flowing Cauvery especially irrigates the Coromandel plains, Tamil Nadu's most fertile plains; its delta in the Thanjavur-Nagapattinam region is the veritable granary of Tamil Nadu! Palai, or the arid desert region of Tamil Nadu is seen primarily in Tirunelveli district.</p><p>Tamil Nadu's most enjoyable temptations, undeniably, are the beaches. With an extensive coastline Tamil Nadu was famous amongst travelers even in ancient times for its ports such as Mylapore, Poompuhar and Mamallapuram from where India conducted trade with Rome, Greece and the Far East. Today tourists can enjoy wide uninterrupted beaches such as Rameswaram, Kanyakumari and the most famous ? Marina beach in Chennai. 12 km of unhindered sea and sand, make it the second longest beach the world.</p><p>Festivals of Tamil Nadu</p><p>With their artistic and aesthetic sensibilities and a robust sense of fun, it is no wonder Tamilians love festivals. Most of these commemorate events from religious mythology or celebrate the seasons.</p><p>Pongal: This most popular of festival of Tamil Nadu's festivals celebrates the harvest season. The festivities stretching to three days, the first day is dedicated to the family, the second day to the sun and the third to the moon. Rice cooked in milk and jaggery is prepared and shared, with even the cattle and animals getting their share. Much rejoicing attends this festival, which is also traditionally observed in rural areas with community meals prepared by freshly harvested produce.</p><p>Thai Pusam: Held in temples dedicated to Kartikeya or Mariamman, devotees demonstrate their faith by walking over burning coal. This over, much singing and feasting follows.</p><p>Kavadi Festival: Inspired by the legend of Idumban who carried two hillocks strung on a pole over his shoulders, devotees of Lord Muruga carry a 'Kavadi' - flower decoration, as they travel up the Palani hills in Tamil Nadu to a temple at the summit.</p><p>Float Festival: Commemorating Tamil Nadu's version of Vishnu, Lord Alagar's giving of his sister, the Goddess Meenakshi in marriage to Lord Sundaresa, ornamented statues of the divine couple are taken out on a golden bull from the Meenakshi temple on a full moon night and floated in a tank on a raft with flowers and lamps. Devotees travel along with the procession, dancing and spraying colours</p><p>Karthigai Deepam: Beautiful rows of glittering earthen lamps outside every home, and the joyous burst of firecrackers mark Tamil Nadu's Festival of Lights.</p><p>Velankanni Festival: Commemorating the shrine of the Virgin Mary, built by grateful Portuguese sailors who miraculously escaped death when their ship was wrecked, this festival is attended by thousands. The church is called the 'Lourdes of the East' on account of miraculous healings experienced by devotees here.</p><p>Kanthuri Festival: Dedicated to Quadirwali, a saint who was famous for doing good to people of all faiths, a descendent of the saint is chosen as a peer. On the tenth day Quadirwali's tomb is anointed with sandalwood paste, which is then distributed to share its healing powers.</p><p>Taste of Tamil Nadu</p><p>No tourist can claim to know Tamil Nadu till he has also tried its cuisine. For the Tamilian carries his gutsy, if refined ingenuity, to food as much as every other facet of his life. Tamil Nadu is predominantly vegetarian ? a reflection of its staunch Hindu faith. While rice, lentils and vegetables are the staple, spices are used to give that unique flavour. Breakfast (tiffin) includes idli (steamed rice cake), dosa (steamed rice pancake), vada (patties made from gram flour) pongal (rice and lentils boiled together and seasoned with cashew, pepper and cumin) and uppma (semolina seasoned with spices). Lunch is usually rice along with vegetables, rasam (a spicy broth) and curd. Non-vegetarians have the option of curries and dishes cooked using chicken, mutton, or fish.</p><p>Roozbegh Gazdar Content Writer <a target="_new" href="http://www.traveljini.com">http://www.traveljini.com</a> <a href="mailto:seo@traveljini.com">seo@traveljini.com</a>

Motorhome Camp Grounds Stalls should be Astroturf

Having traveled from state to state and every city in the United States over 10,000 population occasionally staying at motor home camp grounds it seems that a few new ideas might be worthy of mention. Motor home campgrounds generally consist of a cement parking stall, which is level and then hook ups for electricity, water, waste and Cable TV if you so need it. Often there is grass in between stalls and sometimes grass between the centers of the cement area you park on, probably to add ambiance for stalls with no motor homes parked there and/or to save the cost of the concrete during construction of the camp ground?</p><p>All this is very nice and makes sense however, the closest areas to the motor homes themselves ought to paved with Astroturf not actual sod. There are many reasons for this. Quite often there are localized weeds growing in the camp ground and the seeds from these weeds get caught in the undercarriage of the motorhome or a trailer they are towing. If the motor home is there for a month the weeds have time to grow underneath and close to the motorhomes guaranteeing that they will in fact get caught in the undercarriage.</p><p>In most states the USDA Forest Service is careful to maintain a noxious weed program to prevent the transfer of local indigenous weeds to other places where those weeds might interfere with the local eco-system and cause a take-over or add new insects to the area. If campers have animals they move fleas as well to other areas. Mosquitoes too can hitch a ride. Properly maintained camp grounds are important and the use of Astroturf which properly drains prevents freestanding water for Mosquitoes to breed and possible hitch a ride after wards, as West Nile Virus seems to be killing more and more people each year.</p><p>Dried brush underneath a vehicle can cause a fire hazard from the tail pipes and dead grass growth under the motorhome is unsafe after the vehicle departs. Additionally with the Western States at a drought crisis the water can be saved without sacrificing the ambiance. Also realize that the older folks who drive motorhomes have weakened immune systems due to age and are more susceptible to catching a virus or disease. Perhaps more camp grounds should look into these things to prevent the spread of noxious weeds, the breeding of mosquitoes and decreasing the fire hazard risks? Think about it.</p><p>"Lance Winslow" - If you have innovative thoughts and unique perspectives, come think with Lance; <a target="_new" href="http://www.WorldThinkTank.net/wttbbs">www.WorldThinkTank.net/wttbbs</a>

Cochin - Cocktails of Cultures

Eulogised as the Queen of the Arabian Sea, Cochin, Kerala's commercial capital is an anachronism. The dashing metropolitan city prides itself on a historical heritage stretching back to ancient times and embracing within its far reaching hold, cultures as diverse as Hindu, Chinese, Arab, Jewish, Syrian Christian, Portuguese, Dutch and English. One of the finest harbours in the world, nature has generously endowed Cochin with clear lagoons, emerald plantations and sprawling beaches whose splendour is perfectly complimented by forts, palaces, temples, museums, old churches, and today, modern sky rises.</p><p>Essentially a collection of islands and jutting peninsulas, Cochin is made up of Ernakulam, Willingdon Island, Mattancherry and Fort Kochi. Ernakulam, the business centre comprises the mainland, separated from Fort-Kochi and Mattancherry by the Periyar River, while the man-made island of Willingdon lies between Ernakulam and Mattancherry. An international airport and seaport connects Cochin with the great world outside and an efficient internal network of roads, railways and water works keeps the city machinery moving.</p><p>However it is its social and cultural extravagance, rather than the physical, that distinguishes Cochin amongst other unique Indian cities. Graced with a port that enjoyed optimum exposure to foreign influences, Cochin has developed into a rare mishmash of influences: Here is where you'll find the oldest European church in India St. Francis Church. Here is also where a 16th century synagogue provides spiritual succor to a thriving, if miniscule, community of Jews. Besides, Cochin showcases Hindu Temples, a Portuguese palace (presented to a Hindu Raja and renovated by the Dutch!), forts, streets and shops in a delightful tapestry that often blurs the individual threads. So much so that the origin of its name remains a mystery. Believed to be a modification of 'Cochazi' or 'small sea' in Malayalam, it could as well have been the Chinese traders from the court of Kublai Khan who named it 'Kochi' after their homeland - Cochin is almost the only place in the world where you can see the quaint Chinese fishing nets outside China.</p><p>No mystery surrounds Cochin's rise to prominence as a port. In 1340 AD, the world famous Kodugallur Port, just north of Cochin, was destroyed by flooding of the Periyar River. Kodugallur's loss however, was Cochin's gain, as it soon assumed importance as a substitute port for carrying on the trade in spices such as cardamom, pepper, cloves and cinnamon.</p><p>While the Chinese and Arabs enjoyed trade with Cochin as much as 2000 years ago, Christians are said to have originated from the visit of the apostle St. Thomas himself and Jews are believed to have settled here in AD 388.</p><p>In 1500, Pedro Alvares Cabral, a Portuguese navigator pioneered a settlement in Cochin. Vasco de Gama established the first Portuguese company and in 1503 the Viceroy Alfonso de Albuquerque built a fort. The British, who took over Cochin in 1635, were driven out by the Dutch in 1663. In 1776, Cochin fell in the hands of Hyder Ali, but was lost by his son Tipu Sultan in1791. After passing through British hands again in 1795, the Dutch finally ceded Cochin in 1814.</p><p>Such an influx of the Chinese, Arabs, British, Dutch and Portuguese, including great travelers like Fa Hien and Sir Robert Bristow gave rise to a flowering of commerce and culture in Cochin, making it a centre of cross cultural interactions. The prosperous spice trade, of which all Cochin's racial and religious groups including Hindu, Muslim, Christian and Jewish minorities were beneficiaries as they shared in the city's prosperity, facilitated this.</p><p>Off all these inhabitants of Cochin, the Jews are perhaps the most interesting. The oldest of the Jewish communities in India, and distinct from the much larger and more absorbed Bene-Israel Community of Maharashtra, they are known to have been in India since more than a thousand years. While their arrival in India has been speculated to occur around the time of the destruction of the Second Temple in 70 BC, others speculate it to coincide with the Assyrian exile in 722 BC or Babylonian exile in 586, or even from the era of King Solomon himself.</p><p>Persecuted by the Moors and later the Portuguese, many Indian Jews settled in Cochin under the protection of Cheraman Parumal known to the Portuguese as the &quot;King of the Jews&quot;, where they prospered. Today however only a handful of Jews remain in Cochin, where the Pardesi Synagogue in Jew Street stands testimony to better times enjoyed by the community.</p><p>Jew Street remains one of the lasting anachronisms of Cochin. A corner of the city where the earlier Jewish traders had their establishments, the ancient cobbled street lying between rows of old timber wood buildings is almost medieval. Shops selling different varieties of spices still exist here and the combined fragrance of these condiments hangs heavy in the air. At the end of the street is the Jewish Synagogue also known as the Pardesi Synagogue. An ancient structure built in 1664, it uses oil-burning chandeliers from the 19th century to light up the interior while blue and white hand-painted Cantonese tiles make up the flooring. The Torah ? The Jewish scriptures- written on sheepskin scrolls are lovingly housed in ornate metal receptacles.</p><p>Cochin's charms remain timeless.</p><p>Roozbegh Gazdar Content Writer <a target="_new" href="http://www.traveljini.com">http://www.traveljini.com</a> <a href="mailto:seo@traveljini.com">seo@traveljini.com</a>

Tips for Mountain Bikers in Spain

As any keen mountain biker will know, there are some important rules to follow and bike handling skills to master before subjecting yourself and your bike to the thrills and spills of off-road riding. Although most of us ride within our capabilities most of the time, riding on different trails in hot weather conditions can present a new set of challenges requiring some new biking skills and knowledge.</p><p>Here in Southern Spain, I spend most of my time riding in warm and dry conditions, on shale/gravel trails in relatively remote areas, at medium to high altitude (1000 ? 4000 ft). I say relatively remote, in that I seldom meet other bikers, hikers or other like-minded individuals. In other words, you must be prepared to patch yourself up and get yourself off the mountainside in the event of an accident.</p><p>Here are some points to consider before embarking on your Spanish MTB adventure.</p><p>Planning routes:</p><p>Map it out - When planning routes for yourself and other bikers to ride, get hold of a map first. I use the 1:25,000 topographical maps published by the Centro Nacional De Informacion Geografica (CNIG). They show most off-road vehicle tracks, forestry access roads and some single track/footpaths.</p><p>Note: I am not sure how often they are updated. Some trails marked on these maps can suddenly disappear. On the other hand, I have ridden trails, which are not indicated, on the maps.</p><p>Terrain and time of year -Taking into account the distance, terrain, altitude, gradients and vegetation you can plan a suitable route for the time of year.</p><p>Mid-summer (early morning and evening riding advisable) look for shaded trails, low gradients with less altitude gain and think about places to refill water bottles.</p><p>Mid-winter This time of year it can be lovely and warm (15-20 deg C ) at sea level and pretty chilly (0-5) at 1000+ metres. When ascending you are generating a lot of heat, coming down the other side at 40Kph + you are subjecting your body to a wind chill factor which can drop temperatures a further 10 degrees. - carry extra layers of clothing.</p><p>Preparation :</p><p>Rider - You of course, must be fit for the ride and this cannot be achieved the night before.?? although it can be enhanced by laying off the San Miguel. Eat a decent breakfast, mainly carbohydrates, Cereal, toast and fruit for example. Stretch before you leave and spin in a low gear for about 1 km when you first set off (especially in winter). Know some first-aid that you can administer to yourself as well as to others. E.g dealing with Bleeding and serious grazes.</p><p>Bike & bits - Bike set-up and Maintenance is much the same everywhere so I won't bore you with details of what you already know, however pay attention to the following.</p><p>-Check for any play in wheel, steering and bottom bracket bearings. With a lot of fast descents and rocky ground it is worth a quick adjustment before any loose bits get worse.</p><p>-Chain needs regular attention in these dry, dusty conditions (every 2-3 rides). Run it through a cleaner, apply fine oil and then remove any excess lubricant, which only acts as a magnet to any dirt. Clean shocks and apply thin film of silicone-based lubricant</p><p>-Tyres, nice 'n' knobbly if you're intending to be off-road 90 % of the time. With a lot of climbing on loose surfaces and descents on rocky stuff I get more traction and comfort with wider tyres at a lower pressure.</p><p>-2 spare tubes ( at least) - There are some vicious plants in the campo, especially prominent in the summer months, with thorns like you wouldn't believe. Check inside surface of tyre thoroughly before fitting new tube ? where there is one thorn there could be many.</p><p>- Helmet and gloves - This should go without saying.</p><p>Water - I usually allow for 1L of water per hour of riding. In the winter on a leisurely low level ride you may drink less than this, during the summer months it can be double. When the weather is hot, I carry 2 bottles on the bike and 2 in my rucksack. Most villages and towns have a natural spring or potable water available somewhere, on longer routes it is worth knowing where the nearest habitations are.</p><p>Food - Unlike thirst, hunger pangs will pass. On a short ride in warm conditions you may not even feel like eating ? the wet stuff is far more important. However it is not advisable to deplete energy reserves so always have some driedfruit/muesli bar with you ? Newsagents are not a common feature of Spanish villages and caf?/bars may not be open all day.</p><p>First-aid kit ? This doesn't need to be bulky. A small well-packed container, including the following; Bandage, gauze pads, safety pins, plasters, antiseptic cream.</p><p>Clothing ? for comfort and protection from exposure to the sun and cold.</p><p>-2 or more thin layers especially on upper body for better temperature regulation, increased insulation ( more air layers) and protection against grazing if you fall off.</p><p>- Bandanas one folded and tied around the forehead keeps sweat out of your eyes.</p><p>Another folded diagonally and tied loosely to keep sun off back of neck. - Sunglasses - High protection sun-cream on any exposed skin.</p><p>Safety on the trail:</p><p>Hazards such as loose surfaces, ditches, eroded gullies and the like will always be present ? it's something that appeals to us MTBers. Accidents occur when we are unfamiliar with these conditions, over confident in our ability or meet with something unexpected in our path. Good bike handling skills can prevent or help get you out of a sticky moment, however when taking on steep descents and tricky technical sections be prepared for the unexpected.</p><p>Dogs - Some people are put off from biking and walking in Spain because of the dogs they may encounter. More often than not this will be when passing by/through a farmyard. In my experiences (which doesn't include any nasty ones yet ? touch wood) Spanish mutts come under the following categories;</p><p>1. Bark and run away</p><p>2. Bark and chase</p><p>3. Total disinterest in your presence.</p><p>In most cases it isn't always clear whether the dog is of type 1 or 2 until you have committed yourself to entering its territory. If you are starting a long descent when they give chase, you can give a two-finger salute and go for it. If however you are grinding uphill in 1st gear and the blighter is loping at your side with plenty in reserve it can be a bit intimidating ? and you probably won't care much for my categorising.</p><p>When passing farm buildings, I always assume that dogs are present. If they do appear but remain at a distance and bark, I stand on my pedals to make myself taller and ride slowly but confidently past. If a dog/dogs begins to advance I shout &quot;FUERA&quot; the term often used to send a dog out or away. This will usually work and also bring your presence to the attention of the household. You can advance and repeat this procedure if the animal is reluctant to give way. Stooping as if to pick up a rock can also intimidate Spanish dogs.</p><p>If you feel at this stage that it is still too risky then trust your instinct and retreat to find an alternative route.</p><p>In my experience, dogs will not attack if you retreat in a calm but confident manner ? DON' T RUN.</p><p>In general</p><p>Plan your ride</p><p>Don't ride alone on unfamiliar trails</p><p>Carry spares and sufficient water</p><p>Protect your body from falls and extreme weather conditions.</p><p>Then get out there and enjoy yourself!</p><p>Steve Murray lives in Spain and runs an Adventure Sports Company <a target="_new" href="http://www.abdal-adventures.com">Abdal Adventures</a>.

PaintBall Gun Buying Tips

There are so many selections available when it comes to paintball guns that choosing one can be overwhelming.</p><p>The most important thing is to make sure that you have done research on the guns that you are interested in buying. Research them on the Internet and ask the more experienced players for their opinions on the guns in question. Make an initial trip to the store, or webpage, to look over the guns and make a list of the ones that you are interested in purchasing. Then do your research.</p><p>You want to make sure that the gun is constructed well. The parts should work, fit right, and be durable. Paintball guns take quite a bit of abuse, so your gun must be durable. Remember that metal is stronger than plastic. Depending on the playing environment that you will use the majority of the time, you may not want a flashy, colorful gun. These will stand out and make you a target. Choose black or dark colors.</p><p>The weight of the gun matters. Keep in mind that you will be carrying the gun, and even running with it. If it is too heavy for you, do not buy it. Walk around with the gun for several minutes in the store to get a feel for it if possible.</p><p>Is the gun simple to operate? If not, you may not want that gun. You want a gun that is easily maintained and easy to operate. Make sure the gun is upgradeable. You may want to add more features to your gun later.</p><p>When a new gun comes on the market, do not rush out to buy it. Give it some time and see what the reviews and opinions from the players who did rush out to buy it are. If you are new to the game, you should rent the gun and other equipment for a while. This will give you the opportunity to see what you like in a gun before you spend your money.</p><p>Make sure that the gun has a safety device on it. This protects you, and those around you. Also, check the warranty on the gun. A one-year warranty is typical. Finally, look at the price. There are some expensive guns out there. However, a higher price does not mean higher quality. Just know exactly what you want from a gun, do your research, and then find one that meets your specifications in your price range.</p><p>Chirstopher Reeve is the owner and operator of PaintBall-Tips.com (<a target="_new" href="http://www.paintball-tips.com">http://www.paintball-tips.com</a>) where he discusses on how to get started in playing paintball and advance strategies.

7 Need to Know Campsite Cooking Strategies

Are you sick and tired of not knowing what to bring or what to cook when you go camping? Do you either pack the entire kitchen (including the sink) or you bring the absolute minimum and then have to use a fork as a spatula or two spoons as tongs?</p><p>If that sounds even the slightest bit familiar then you are in the right place. Over the past decade or so I have refined a list of 7 things that I use every single time I prepare for my next camping trip.</p><p>These strategies are relevant whether you are car camping, primitive camping, RV camping, scout camping or large group camping. You can very easily apply them across any type of trip, which is what really makes them worthwhile.</p><p>So here they are:</p><p>1. Plan the Meals ? Okay common sense right? Well If I didn't include this as the first and most important item I would get hollered at! But seriously, if you don't plan the meals ahead of time not only do you not know what you're going to eat you also have no idea what to pack as far as cooking gear is concerned. Do you need a spatula or tongs? Do you need a strainer or a frying pan?</p><p>2. Plan the Gear ? This follows directly from number 1. Now that you know what you are going to eat for the trip you can now figure out exactly what utensils, pots, pans, containers and other miscellaneous cooking gear you need. And more importantly what gear you don't need! My family and I do a lot of tent camping which means that we take my wife's SUV, so we have a very limited amount of room that we must pack all of our &quot;stuff&quot; into. If I only need a 2 quart pot and a small frying pan well guess what, the 9 other pots and 4 other frying pans stay at home!</p><p>3. Plan the Condiments ? Have you ever went camping and once you get there you realize that you don't have ketchup, mustard or relish for your nice, hot and juicy steakburger you just cooked for yourself? Have you ever went camping and it took you 10 minutes to find the garlic powder because it found it's own way to the bottom of the box you keep all your spices in? There is a fine line between having too many spices/condiments and not having enough but you have to walk that line. Even if you have a 40 foot Class A Mega Super Duper Motor home, you only have so much space.

Inflatable Pontoon Boats

Bryce Whitmore designed the modern whitewater inflatable pontoon boat, and in fact designed several models. The one that has been produced the most is a three-tube model of unparalleled maneuverability and load bearing capacity. This boat which is fourteen feet overall, can carry 6 passengers, their baggage, and a guide.</p><p>Not all Pontoon boats are 14 feet long. Some are 8 or 9 feet long as well. Pontoon boats come in all sizes and prices from $200 to $1,000. Users looking for an 8 foot Pontoon should expect to pay $500 to $700 for a new entry-level boat.</p><p>9-foot inflatable pontoon boats would cost between $700 and $900, but would offer stability in rivers with some white water. It should be noted, however, that Pontoon boats are not recommended for use in rapids rated higher than Class 2.</p><p>Inflatable pontoon boats are also called &quot;belly boats&quot; and are popular for fishing. They are lightweight craft with a rocking chair. Inflatable pontoon boat owners say they like the freedom from trailers and ramps, as well as the Pontoon's stability on windy waters.</p><p>Pontoon boats for fishing are small, usually not more than 8 feet long. How it works is that two Pontoons sit on either side of the user. Pontoon hulls are shaped in a V hull pattern, greatly minimizing water resistance by slicing through it when paddling and allowing for excellent maneuverability.</p><p>The Inflatable Pontoons are connected by a frame, which also contains the paddles and the sitting area for the user. Inflatable pontoon boats are paddled similar to a rowboat, and the frame of the Pontoon boat makes paddling these boats easy.</p><p>Inflatable pontoon boats with comfortable seats, oar locks and storage platforms are the most popular these days. Float tube users sit low and heavy in the water, but Pontoons perch people higher above the waterline and, with oars, are much more maneuverable.</p><p>Inflatable pontoon boats with corrosion-resistant stainless steel or aluminum frames are durable and maintenance free. The Pontoon surface should be covered with polyurethane coated fabric, as it does not break down over time.</p><p><a target="_new" href="http://www.e-inflatableboats.com">Inflatable Boats Info</a> provides detailed information on pontoon, rigid and fishing inflatable boats, as well as trailers, repairs, used inflatable boats and manufacturers. Going it Alone: The Waterfall at Mendenhall Glacier, Alaska

I stood at the observation point on the balcony at the Visitor Center overlooking the great Mendenhall Glacier at Juneau, Alaska. Before me was a beautiful scene. The glacier reflected in the large lake. Ooh, ahh. Both to the left and right were mountains. It was a beautiful clear day. I watched the people too, walking around taking photos, and looking at the scenery before us and at the displays in the center, just a few feet away.</p><p>A constant roar came from a tall and full waterfall to the right of the glacier. Once, the glacier covered the waterfall. No one was aware of its presence before the glacier receded. I looked closer at the base of the waterfall. There seemed to be a sandbar and people walking on it. With my binoculars I traced the path they must have taken below me. It crossed large sandbars separated by streams and covered with bushes. I found the general location of the beginning of the path. A ranger told me that there was a way to get out there, but it wasn't official, and that it was a little steep at one point. I decided that the best way to see such a beautiful place was up close, so I decided to try it. My mom and my husband were along with me. I told them I wanted to try the path, and asked if they wouldn't mind just hanging around waiting for me since they didn't want to join me.</p><p>Into the bushes I went. Immediately, I had to scramble along steep wet slate under the cover of brush. After following some wrong trails and trying again, I found myself in the large bush-covered sandy area heading towards the waterfall. I jumped little streams and plotted my course across to my goal. My last obstacles were climbing a large rock, and then traversing a 20 ft. wide stream dotted with well-placed stepping stones.</p><p>I walked right up to the roaring waterfall, and even climbed up along side it a ways on large rocks. Walking away from the waterfall I encountered a large cloud of mist that emanated from its base. I walked out along the sandbar towards the center of the lake and found a large rock to sit on. I had a snack, enjoying being present in this amazing location -- surrounded by the lake and flanked by a glacier, a grand waterfall and mountains. I met people too. Some kids were climbing up much higher than I had on the rocks. A gentleman from Germany took my photo, and I took a photo of two girls out on their own adventure.</p><p>After an hour of 'hanging around,' I turned back. I crossed the creek, climbed the rock, and then looked for hikers emerging from the bushes to find the best path back. A couple times I had to stop and wait for new hikers so I could find the path again. The sun was setting, the floating icebergs were glimmering on the lake, and I enjoyed every moment of delay.</p><p>My entire trek took about two hours -- worth every moment. My husband and my mom were very understanding and said they enjoyed the visitor center and the scenery (which included me through the telescope!) I'm glad I had the courage to ask for that time. It would have been easy just to do the scheduled tour, and to take no risks. William Shedd once said, 'A ship in the harbor is safe, but that is not what ships are built for.' I find that when I go further, it makes all the difference. It creates treasured memories.</p><p>About The Author</p><p>Paths began to beckon Theresa when she was 12, visiting the Bridger Wilderness in Wyoming. Highpointing: It?s Not Just For Mountaineers

Mount Sunflower, Kansas. Ebright Azimuth, Delaware. Hawkeye Point, Iowa. Hoosier High Point, Indiana. They can not have the name recognition of Mount McKinley (Denali), Mount Rainier, Mount Whitney, and Mount Hood. And no doubt they are much, much easier to obtain for! But all these places have something in common. Each is the highest place in nature. Welcome to Highpointing. Thousands more sane people have to drive, go, go, or climb the highest point in all 50 states. Many have never planned to go to the strictest high points as Denali (in Alaska), Rainier (in Washington) or granite (in Montana), but they found pleasure in planning trips unusual to find the beginning of sunflower (which is on the plains of Kansas), Ebright Azimuth (yes, a suburban district May be the site of a climax), Hawkeye Point (located at the end of a tray on a farm in Iowa), and Lakewood Park (turn right at the poor, and a short walk along a path in a park in Florida). Of the 50 points State High, 14 are in car-ups. You run at the pinnacle, or so close that you can throw a rock and hit. Probably 8 are very easily, with the participation of a round-trip walk or go 30 minutes or less. In fact, only about 9 or 10 points above state of the participation of more than one step along a path. OK, some of these paths requires long trips that can save a lot of height. But if you are in good condition and can walk for hours, you can manage state control about 40 points up! Why do people in highpointing? It is a great way to see our country. You can find points of high popular seaside resort (Mount Mansfield in Stowe, Vermont), national parks (Clingman Dome in Great Smoky Mountains, Tennessee), and State Parks (Mauna Kea in Hawaii; Harney Peak in Custer State Park, South Dakota). But many are well off the beaten track, and takes you to beautiful and interesting places in the country that otherwise have seen in May. Eagle Mountain is in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness Center in Minnesota. The culmination of Oklahoma, Black Mesa, is very close to the end of the arm. TauPan Sauk Mountain, Missouri, is located in a beautiful area of the Ozark. Go in autumn when leaves are at their peak, climbing tower in the vicinity, and prepare to be happy. There are also many interesting things to see and do in the vicinity of the high points. Take in a concert by the Boston Symphony Orchestra or Boston Pops at Tanglewood in Massachusetts. Looking for something less educated? What about Boll weevil monument in Florida? Wisconsin or concrete Park, with sculptures of horses, soldiers and heroes? In the case of food and drink is more than you are, do not miss a visit to Ben &amp; Jerry's Ice Cream Factory in Vermont, Great Adirondack Brewing Company in New York, or stop at the top of the hill in the restaurant L 'Anse, Michigan for the most decadent (and largest), the buns can imagine. Chimborazo: Learning Spanish At 20,600 Feet

Breen climb to the summit of Mount Chimborazo in Ecuador is not very technical. It is climbing, but how difficult it was May, and see that I went to 20,600 feet for the first time I used an ax and crampons is? Well, once I used to practice in a sled hill near my house. I climbed forty feet while people walked by a sled, tell their children to stay away from me. It is also easier to climb when the first guide to 15,000 feet. Do not be misunderstood. Climbing the last 5600 meters were very difficult, but not for the skill required. The air is the missing half of its oxygen is stop what I was twenty times en route. It is simply difficult to go up there. Chimborazo Cementery

monument near the first refuge were not for climbers without skill. The cemetery is a warning to the unpredictability of high places. Chimborazo is very high, at random shruggs large stones, and have time to change at present. While travel to other refugees, we could hear rocks and chunks of ice somewhere above the drop. El Refugio Edward Whymper shelter is not heated to 16,000 feet, named after the English CLIMBER that first summitted the mountain. Well, not quite without heating. There is a fireplace, and if somebody feels like carrying wood up to 5000 meters, fire can increase the temperature in the cabin of 3 degrees. We had hot cups of mate de coca a tea of coca leaf, which is also used for another product - which is one taken by the nose. We went hiking and Twenty minutes - my acclimatization. We ate, and slept an hour before beginning the ascent at eleven o'clock this evening.
About Mount Chimborazo
is Chimborazo in Ecuador, near the equator (100 km south). Height in the middle of the country, and the moderating effect on the Humboldt Current along the coast, gives the country near perfect weather. A little warm in the lowlands, but in the spring, Quito (the capital), with highs in the sixties to seventy low all year. Good weather almost everywhere in the world - until you reach high enough. The summit of Chimborazo is the farthest from the heart of the earth. Ardennes Earth at the equator, making Mount Chimborazo even further than Everest. That is the difference between being the nearest planet to the Sun. Unfortunately, there is also the coldest place in Ecuador. Climbing Chimborazo

Paco, my guide, not the attention of the small part of my adventure of mountaineering. The evil in my sleeping bag, which packed under a football and weighed a pound. My 13-oz less backpack is not impress him. It was below zero in the cabin, and he said, but I kept warm - as I said I did. No problem so far. Unfortunately, Paco does not speak any English, and I learned Spanish. Since our group consisted of him and me, we had some communication problems. I think, for example, the rate of $ 11 for night (several hours) in the cabin was included in the guide costs $ 130 He thought I was a mountain climb. I think that says it has not, as has the role of waterproof, I was using, and hurt my house hoods. When I saw insulation jacket, a piece of feathery Poly stick with a hole in the cup in my mind I would not be fair to understand what he said. Does not intend to go climb Chimborazo with the equipment so easy, but I come to Ecuador on a flight offer, and who can not carry luggage. I had12 books in my backpack to begin with, so when I wear all my clothes at night, the emphasis on my back was irrelevant. The weight of my body was not. Paco had to coax me the mountain.
walking on glaciers
glaciers start near the cabin, and hiking. I wear crampons for the second time in my life (it was that the sledding hill). During one of my many breaks ( Too - for many, I tried not understand), I realized my small, cheap thermometer a low of 5 degrees Fahrenheit. I am not cold, but I was exhausted at times - times when I went through. When I always I felt I could run on the hill. We fought (well, I struggled) up Mount Chimborazo, hiking, climbing, jumping crevasses, before closing at 20,000 feet. Of course, I had to stop at 19,000 feet and 18,000 feet. Quitting smoking has become my routine. Lying has become the Paco, so I said, which directly faces the summit was just fifty feet above. I would like to believe, or lack of oxygen had scrambled my brain. I reiterated the ice.
the summit of Mount Chimborazo
to face early in the morning. Well, I fell. Paco, who seemed tired and slow down the shelter was at 20,600 feet high. Son of a bitch Joe, a nineteen son in California with ten dollars in his pocket, the team made, and ramen noodles to my stomach, we waited, smiling. The sky is striking blue shade which can never look at lower elevations. Cotapaxi, a classic snow, volcano, was clearly visible 70 km. We enjoyed the view for a few minutes. About all the hand shakes, and it was time to the head. They told me not to live in the Chimborazo, when they wake up. She wakes up to nine hours, Paco required to watch his watch and frowning. You have more and more in the future, as it is intended to let me in the mountains. When finally caught in the hut at nine o'clock in the morning, I heard rocks falling east of the sun as it warms. Now I understand - they do not need nine. One thousand meters below my mountain adventure ends with a photo that is not God thank you show around my knees shake.
Note:
to climb Mount Chimborazo, it is cheaper to wait until you come to Ecuador to trafficking. Talk to almost any hotel manager in Riobamba, and he or she is a guide for you. It is also cheaper if you are part of a group. Steve Gillman is a long-time backpacker, and advocate of ultralight backpack. Today, the only shark in Protea Banks that have some form of protection, is the great white and roto-stained teeth. The Cast of Culture in South Africa

Walking along one of South Africa stage bands, and you will see a landscape consists of a bakteppe spaces, mountains and the blue-blood-red sunsets. These scenes are many, but given the nature of culture in South Africa, attention can quickly move to a small boy gallantly escorting herds of cattle, end to end, a rainbow as a bridge through one of the largest and most active roads in South Africa. Culture pay particular and Africa as well as beautiful, this kind of exuberant contrast and culture in South Africa is what we really need to experience. Imagine this scenario for a moment: You are hopelessly blocked within Africa, without a spare tire and waiting for help. To prepare the flag first car that passes. When will it be? what you think about yourself. It takes time. You'll even like his free dehydrated in many miles in the dry semi-arid terrain of the nearest town, while hordes of hungry vultures are hovering overhead to meet for lunch. Fortunately, a small, dust and battered truck pulled this nightmare vision is quickly dissolved. Difficult to find men looking at the rear of the truck, peering, it acquired through hard work this hard, wild land. The uncertainty and tension is interrupted by his friendly smile and drive on which, with joy and happiness at the gas station and return to his car where he was helped to adapt to their new tire repaired . Now you are safe on the road to begin to realize the importance of genuine hospitality, known within the culture in South Africa as geselligheid. Grateful that you had a real experience (one certain something that I felt) that we now have a relationship with all my heart, with the people and culture in South Africa. This is not a heat-induced illusion or an isolated incident. It is the true story of one of our customers, who broke down while driving through the arid west coast of the diamond fields of Namibia. Travelers have confirmed many of these types of actions that took place during his odyssey experimental Africa. Maybe he has to do with the land or its nature limitless. The reason why people help each other if a stranger or a friend. This does not mean that South Africa is a country of altruistic saints. The camera in his car in the middle of a side door and the chance that it will be there for lunch is less than surprising. What then, it is said in this country? These huge blank spaces and wildernesses fertile. This wild place where nature civilized and unique culture of its people is measured by the attitude most often experienced by many travelers. What is the simple reason that many of our visitors from the northern hemisphere back here again and again? You can not find in the experience of South African culture and the friendliness of its inhabitants. The many answers to this question can be demonstrated again and again in a smile that can pass through the municipal market, in respect and tolerance shown by visiting holy places and cultural icons of the population, and in Greetings and true concern while in the arms of the local hospital companies. Views of Africa has been changing slowly, but they are still changing. Foreign visitors used to believe that herds of elephants roamed the dusty streets of the region and hiking alone in perfect piles of Africa means meeting lions, giant spiders and are likely to be attacked by masked fighters with six-foot spears. The herds of elephants, referred to the African game farms in remote areas throughout the continent. The golden hills stretch from one end of the Cape Peninsula to the other, like a gigantic smile peering into the valleys, but they want Tamed animals have been long and the hills are certainly open to all those who in their company. If you're looking for the essence of adventure in Africa, responsible for Moors rich diversity and infinite possibilities, and experience the warmth and hospitality characteristic of this country. Trust in South Africa to set the stage and threw in our culture. http://www.escape-tours.com/ Escape Tours is a group of experienced travelers who have been exploring the South Africa since 1976. Rigid Inflatable Boats

A rigid Zodiac is defined as a hard-hulled boat with air inflatable collars. RIB hulls are made of fiberglass, aluminum or composite materials. The soft bumpers or fenders, called sponsons , may be air tubes, or all foam systems. These ships are governed by a number of engines and generally by the manufacturer as a whole? tube with boat, motor and trailer. Rigid inflatable boats are more traditional, such as boats, with the support of the hull of a rigid material. The main advantages of these boats are superior performance and easy assembly. To assemble, it was only an increase in the pipeline. But storage can be a problem because there will be less than the rigid structure of the boat. Since an RIB is heavier, a system of Davit (crane thereof) is usually necessary to bring it into the boat. Rigid inflatable boats may be larger than other boat engines of comparable size, and perform nearly as well as rigid boats, especially in tight turns, but without the volume and weight. A piece of hull and deck room, non-skid footing and a stable platform for water skiing, diving or fishing. Although tubes Deflate storage, RIB is not dense, and thus many boaters keep them on the trailer on the deck, swimming in its path, or on davits. Rigid inflatable boats are the best practitioners, and thus more expensive. His rigid hull of fiberglass attached to inflated tubes combine the lightweight stability and buoyancy of inflatable boats to speed, the arm úv&#283;r capacity, stability and Fuel Management rigid boats. The real beauty of these hard shell bottom and a necklace of boats is that the pipe / collar has flotation, adds stability and self-defense? This means that BIR is not zero WO second helmets. These characteristics of the fin to improve the capabilities of keeping the sea, a better absorption of shock waves on impact, easier to board other vessels, high visibility, increased swamp buoyancy, and enhance stability and progress while stationary. Rigid inflatable boats have evolved from a Zodiac to a deep V-hull boat hard. Ribs are ideal for use in rescue operations, boarding operations, tenders for ships and boats, buses and cars. Hiking in the Forest Knowing When to Slow Down

One morning in mid-summer, I headed for some time to myself in the trails of Font She Forest in Bellevue, Nebraska. As usual, I stopped at the Visitor Center to pay the price of entry after arriving at my car and a few kilometers long and winding road to the rear silencer. This is a typical hot and humid summer day in Nebraska. The beginning of the green track, I was already uncomfortably warm. Mistakes were everywhere: mosquitoes, Gnat, flies, bees, as the name. I followed the lane, he made his way through four feet high grass. I tried to benefit from the establishment, but she had to constantly fan of errors in front of my face. I grew increasingly frustrated. Finally, the exasperated with errors, I stopped dead in my tracks and waved to all my arms around modulation, while around a circle. I increased my attack insects with a small growl to ease my mind. Only then will the world and was transferred to tearing around me. After my first shock, I saw what I had missed the time before. It seems that the deer was placed in the tall grass just a foot (one foot) from where he is. I lost because of concern for insects which is bent on the destruction of my morning. When I started making this adjustment is the deer were forced to leave the place. He leaped into the air just before my eyes, literally, and dashes out for better coverage. It was too late. I missed. Now, I was aware and ready to see what was around me, but that the hearing could have been seen had disappeared. It was killing me to know that I missed the joy of being so close to wildlife! Immediately I wondered what I need, and not just on the runway. I wondered how annoying mistake in my life I noticed things that really matter. It was a life lesson to remember Ive often. His hit my visit to my grandmother, time alone with my husband, and meetings with friends. His hit to make my lists. My motto is: if I do, nobody will notice? If no value added, I just cross my list. Ive learned from my mistakes. One day, during a visit to Colorado this summer, my husband and I sat quietly on the bank of a dam and then swallows dance in the air plane to catch byttedyr. I was surprised by the sudden change of direction could make a mid-air. As I sat there for a longer time to use my bright green hat Tours, a green Hummingbird flew to within two inches (two inches) from me, gave me a closer look, and flew away. He had disappeared after the break only for a second, but this time I do not lose. I remember exactly what appeared Hummingbird. Amazing Trek Across TIbet!

Today Bookpleasures and Sketchandtravel is pleased to have as our customers, Brandon Wilson, author of Yak Butter Blues. In 1992, Brandon and his wife Cheryl traveled 40 days from early October to late November in 1992, more than 1000 km journey along the ancient pilgrimage route mark set on Tibet. Obviously, they were among the first Western couples to trek this ancient route alongside, by the way, that the name of a horse Sadhu. Good day Brandon and thank you for accepting our invitation to be interviewed. Norm: Brandon, can you tell our readers something about you and your wife Cheryl, and why they want to trek the whole of Tibet and Have you ever had any fear in advance of this trip? Brandon: Tashi Delek, Norma! We were on the road in the years to budget travelers, traveling light with only a backpack for us for months. In the process, we have done everything necessary travel around the world for a year and has seen many of the major achievements of civilization. We also traveled overland across Africa for the nine months (the subject of my book will be published in 2005, Dead Men Do not let advice.) Therefore, they were ready for a more intense something more in line with that of the great explorer. Our decision to attempt to trek from Lhasa, Tibet, Kathmandu, Nepal on the idea that this was the last adventure. All have grown up with the legend of Shangri-La, that fanciful place from James Hilton's Lost Horizon. The more I read about Tibet, the more I was fascinated by its remoteness, inaccessibility, and its exotic reputation. Then, as if he had the chance, we were told repeatedly that this trip had never been done by a young Western and that it was impossible! It is finally sealed our fate. With regard to fear earlier in the day, first I had real concern that would not be accepted in Tibet as independent travelers, since the border was closed for many years. A Chinese organized group tour was the only issue for us. So, despite the assured the trip was impossible because of lack of food, water, housing, map, and personally I was more concerned about the weather. Knowing the severity of weather in the Himalayas, we will be able to reach the lower altitudes of Nepal in time before the closure of roads, until we stranding of May t? Finally, I must admit that I was cautious about the reaction of Uzi-toting Chinese soldiers along the way, as well as various tables of bureaucrats unused to dealing with foreigners. I assume that prefer to relate to nature, every day, rather than the vagaries of human nature. Norm: What was the most horrible experiences he has encountered during his trip? Brandon: This is a shot in place. The whole trip was full of uncertainty. The Specter of lack of food and water was a daily concern. Where are we? When our body can physically capable of 1000 km in altitude 12-17000 foot in 40 days? But I must say that most of the shadows because singular experience which is shot dead by Chinese soldiers, because it overlooks Mt Everest from a hilltop in Tingri. What should I do? Like other finalists, I would like to appoint the morning when we awoke to a blinding storm, and it still needs pressing. Norm: What impressed most of all on the trip? Brandon: First, was impressed by the unexpected generosity of the Tibetan people. Original packed tent, stove and fuel for the trip, hoping to be completely in our own way. But after our first night camping on a plot of potatoes, which have been taken by villagers who shared their meager assets, including Yak butter tea and a hot spot around the fire. I grew to look forward to these human exchanges, even if they had to use sign language and a bit clumsy Phrasebook communicate. Fortunately, we started to run into former monks who had received training in Nepal and still spoke limited English. Thanks to speak with them, we can be better informed about the difficulties of life in Tibet today under the Chinese Communist occupation. We learned that Tibetans are prevented from making pilgrimages along the same route as the blade in Nepal, as they have done for centuries. It is the journey was for us more than just adventure trek. It was a political statement. If we could make them walk as pilgrims, we show that the Chinese can be done, even with the West, without undermining the geo-political power balance. In fact, the conclusion of the hike, we presented a set of prayer flags for the king of Nepal, the personal representative to the palace in the hope that the king to fly as a symbol of solidarity with the Tibetan Buddhists. Ultimately, was impressed by the unwavering faith shown by many Tibetans. At night, the darkness in silence from their homes, shared photos of His Holiness the Dalai Lama with them that we have secreted in the country. Cautiously keep the image, emphasized fronts members of his family, his blessing. Then, the development of several layers of curtains, reverently placed in his private altar beside other statues of saints and instruments. After more than 40 years of oppression and death, which can still be patient and keep as much faith? Norm: If I had to do it again in 2004, still jump at the chance? As a follow-up, we recommend that all follow in your footsteps, and what are the potential dangers that May meeting today? Brandon: Frankly, no. The trip is a once in their life experience. From what I read from, and I receive Tibetan news every day now, the country has changed dramatically, especially in Lhasa. As inundated as it was then with Chinese settlers, solders and foreign culture, but even more so today. Now we are completing a rail line from Lhasa in western China, so that the transformation is accelerating, the assimilation complete. The world saw the same effect in Inner Mongolia and Manchuria with the arrival of the railway. However, I would like to love, perhaps the most remote Mustang region this time, far from the propaganda tours. Of course, this is assuming that I would like to get a visa. Writing this book has made the most remote possibility, however, I wish to inform the reader to explore all parts of the world that interest them up. There is nothing more satisfying than the discovery of a culture-not-a-time. It is a traditional form of exploration, which creates a total immersion in a culture: its food, history, art, architecture, people, language and nature. I like to think of it as a meditation walk, too. Put the body on autopilot and travel outside, while traveling within. If readers are interested in the way of rewarding trip, see more options on my site, where I am free how-to articles about walking some of Europe's most spectacular marks in the long pilgrimage roads with Web links for more information. Walking in Tibet has been at the top of this, my latest passion. Norm: How would you describe your relationship with your wife after the trip? Reading the book I noticed that there were some moments of tension between the two during the adventure. Brandon: I really admire Cheryl for the courage and willingness to take a chance. Traveling with daily problems, uncertainty, life and often dangerous situations, is something on the race. Fortunately ours survived and this experience has provided an even stronger. If we could survive, why we were able to survive at all. Norm: Did you keep a journal on the trip? Brandon: Sure. It is sometimes difficult to find the time or energy at the end of one of these 14 hours a day to sit and write. But I wanted this account of our visit is real, raw, real and not a romantic notion of adventure travel. Capturing the essence (while the blisters are still fresh) is essential. Time heals all wounds, as they say, and if you expect to write especially after having lost much of the details in time until it becomes a Disney version of its report without the dancing hippos, well safer. Norm: After returning to his country, has done everything that you write journal articles on their experiences, or any conference on this subject? Brandon: I wrote magazine and newspaper articles about the experience, and I would like to lecture on the trip and the situation in Tibet. Living in Hawaii, there is always a problem of logistics and cost of travel outside the islands. Now that the book is published, if there is enough interest in North America, I would like to have the opportunity to speak to groups about this change of life and experiences on Tibet, which grew to appreciate. Norm: Why did you choose the title Yak Butter Blues for your book? Brandon: Well, as a global citizen, I was very disturbed by seeing the destruction of this ancient culture, reduction of temples, the corruption of monastic life, re-training for a population where children are prevented learning Tibetan in schools, the eradication of Tibetan food and clothing stores, in addition to the mass settlement of Han Chinese in Tibet is causing the Tibetan to become a minority in their country. It is now at a point where the Yak butter tea, which feeds on food that has nourished and sustained a people throughout the centuries, will soon be all that remains of an enlightened culture, while the world 's away. They are Yak Butter Blues. (In fact, I appreciated the type of Kerouac, Ian sounds!) Standard: Have you heard the news about your horse Sadhu left behind you? Brandon: The Internet is an excellent tool. Despite the fact that he wrote to his new owner, the man who led the boarding house of Kathmandu, shortly after our house, never heard of him. Recently I Google the hostel and was able to join his brother. Unfortunately, Sadhu, our old friend, died a few years ago in a very mature age. He spent his last years in a luxury, but it will always remind us that only in Tibet, which could lead to freedom. Norm: Did you stay in touch with all those who met in May, in turn? Brandon: Unfortunately not. We have sent copies of some photos I took along the way the family we met, as our way to thank them. That's all. Norm: How long did it take to write this book? Brandon: The first draft of the book was written in a few months. After being examined by several projects. When I added the latest news on Tibet I could find, sorted through photos, and also some of the simple truths that have already been planted in the mountains of Tibet and along the magnitude latest pilgrimage marks Treks together. Norm: How will market the book? Brandon: Ah, the last question! I think it is in many ways an extension of the trip. Perhaps in retrospect, it is so difficult, with more than 100,000 books published each year. We support a free Tibet, colleges and universities, libraries, Travel, adventure, trekking and outdoor agencies, newspapers, magazines, international adventure, and groups of Buddhist dharma, Indians and Nepalese, and independent bookstores to help get the word. Much of this is ongoing and that the use of the Internet for many people to know our site. National tests have so far been excellent and I am waiting for others from abroad. Yak Butter Blues is included in the list of books on the Web sites of Europe to North America to Japan and Australia / New Zealand. I can also write and submit articles to sites related to linkages, particularly the large community of displaced Tibetan people, which tells the story as much as ours. The promotion of the book ultimately these days rests with the author, I participate in the book of signatures and interviews to develop even more interesting. As I said, if I think it's a fairly large interest in the presentations May be tempted to put together a sort of tour in North America. Whatja think? Finally, after all the little moments along the track you want us to our survival to some mysterious force, we have learned to have faith, trust, which is planned for this trip and I would write this book. I can only trust that again we will be blessed and that our audience will find us a lifetime on the track. In the meantime, if readers want a first-hand look at our tour, with a sample chapter, maps, photos, Tibetan music and Tibet / Hiking / bonds of peace, you can not on my website. So take the time to sign our guestbook, e-mail me, talk to your friends, or post a review on Amazon.com. Namaste! Backpacking Journals ? Preserve Your Backpacking Experiences

Mochilero is a great way to escape the Rat Race and become one with nature. Unfortunately, his experience hiking can fade with time. The best way to avoid this is to maintain a backpacker's magazine adventure. Backpacking Magazines Take a minute to give any consideration of past experience of hiking. What sticks in your mind? Now think for the first time he has never been hiking. To be sure, you remember certain things about the geography, people went strolling with routes and a spectacular view. The experiences that you have forgotten is lost over time. If you maintained a backpacker magazine, this is not the case. There are known cases of people keep journals over time. Of course, Anne Frank's Diary is the best example. In his diary, Anne kept a running commentary of the two years her family spent hiding from the Nazis. Although his experience of walking better be more easily, keep a journal, you can recall that years go by. A good hiker magazine brings together a number of characteristics. First, it must be compact and, therefore, need not take unnecessary space for other things. Secondly, there should be a case to protect from rain, emissions and so forth. The third magazine will contain spaces to write their notes. Fourthly, the magazine must include the spacebar to remind you to take notes on things. Pekepinner should include: 1. What happened to backpacker, 2. When you backpack and benefit, 3. If you met and contact information for them, 4. The geographic and climatic conditions, 5. Routes you tried and how far you've done, and 6. All things unique that took place while hiking. At the end of the trip, you should be able to get the next one of his journal: 1. Contact information for other hikers and people who met, 2. Just enough details to give you a friend or a guide on the back for the second time. 3. Memories reflect on years later and 4. What makes move to their friends, children and grandchildren. To get the most out of the magazine backpacker, you should write to the backpacker during breaks or immediately after. Each trip is special, even if they do for a weekend. Mochilero is an excellent way to Council with nature. Make sure to preserve the experience. 7 Need to Know Campsite Cooking Strategies

Are you sick and tired of not knowing what to do or what to cook when you go camping? Or the entire kitchen (including toilets) or do the bare minimum, and then you must use a fork as a spatula or two spoons and tongs? If the sound is the same little unless you know when you're in the right place. During the last ten years, I developed a list of 7 things that I use whenever I prepare for my next camping trip. These strategies are valid only if the car camping, primitive campsites, RV camping, scout camping, or large group camping. It can be used easily in all types of travel, which is really what makes it worthwhile. Therefore, are: 1. The meal plan? Common sense is not it? Even if I do not take this as the first and most important point I want to get hollered! But seriously, if not the meal plan at the moment is not only you do not know what's going to eat, you also have no idea how the package when it comes to the kitchen, the art is concerned. Do you need a spatula or tongs? Do you need a sieve or a distinction? 2. The plan Gear? This stems directly from the number 1. Now that you know what to eat during the journey can now know exactly what utensils, cooking pots, pans, containers and other kitchen equipment you need. And the most important art is not necessary! My family and I do a lot of camping tents, which means that we take my wife, SUV, we have a very limited space, we have to pack everything. If you only need a 2 Quart pot and a good little distinction guess, 9 other pots and pans, 4 others stay home! 3. Condiments plan? Have you ever gone camping and when you arrive there, you discover that you do not have ketchup, mustard or its pleasant taste, warm and juicy cooked steakburger only for you? Have you ever gone camping and it took 10 minutes to find the garlic powder, which he found his own way down the dialog to keep all their spices? It is a fine line between too many spices and condiments, and were not enough, but you have to go online. Even if you have a 40-foot motor homes Class A Mega super duper, has only so much space. Sit down and look at the recipe that will use them and then find out what spices and condiments that can make and what to leave home. 4. More than 10%? Get 10% more food than you think you should have. If your family is usually eat hamburgers 4, take 5 or 6. If you usually eat 6 pieces of corn on the COB take 8. I am not sure what it is, but when you are camping across the world seems to be hungry all the time. Perhaps because they are running in more than doing things, or May there be something in the air, I do not know. 5. Kis? The plan must be simple. The discrimination that you'll be in the middle of the forest. Is it possible to create a rack of lamb with Dijon herb crust-Nut, Parisian potatoes, green beans wrapped in Call carrots and mashed sweet potato basket? Yes, it is technically possible. If I go? NO! Understand me well, I can not say a square 3 milk and cereals. I mean, remember where you are going to be the most primitive and kitchen utensils at its disposal. 6. Sound-proof, if you think of food over a campfire or using a new grill or cook in the RV for the first time in his next trip? Do not! Always, always, always do a test at home before it is done. Build a small fire in his back and see if someone is a need to increase the fire of charcoal for cooking and make it more equitable. Make sure knows how to connect the new coverage, and how it is hot. It's really not very fun to go into the forest and burn any dinner party with a strong or sat at the bottom of the fire due to a malfunction of equipment. Therefore, consider making a test. 7. Try a new perspective? Remember the strategy number 6, my family has always talk about a new treatment when we go camping. Whether a new recipe for our green bean casserole or a little naughty snack after dinner, you can try something new each time. This does not mean something exotic that you are unsure that the animals themselves. Just look around the Internet, there are many campfire / Dutch oven recipes is for you to try. Well, that's what my list is 7 should know Camping Kitchen strategies. This is not a wish or a group of things that I drew from the ground. -- I use this list when I plan a trip for my family, my friends and troops. This list, if used correctly will keep you in a good place for their trips. S You do not have food, you do not eat soft food that does not buy a lot of non-food, and possibly in poor condition and most important dinner is not a task for both land camping. The dilapidated houses were demolished during the reign of King Rama III (1824? 1851) and rebuilt to house Kuan Yin, the goddess of mercy. Disneyland for Hikers: A Walk to Mt. Whitney

Base camp is at 12,000 feet - gross, wind, white-hot August sun, but a great place to stop for a bite. Voices echo of granite that the cold wind is wrapped around a dozen tents, backpacks, stoves, and bear-proof food bombs. Without opening a package of banana chips on my lap is immediately torn by a marmot, unlimited by my presence and my research unfazed. In this case, animals, people, and how granite or a community living in the Sierra Nevada desert. The road to Mount Whitney sees thousands of people each year, any person who seeks the highest peak in the USA (except Alaska). The people of the amount of trails, animals take advantage of people, and Inyo National Forest rake in thousands of dollars from tourism. They say that if you want solitude, go to Antarctica. Mount Whitney is Disneyland for hikers. This does not mean Whitney should be avoided. As Disneyland is a good reason, all the crowds gather in a stage in California. Few other places in the world offers a track trails to 14496 feet, where anyone with a solid couple boots can hike to the summit of a country and an important one. The skills are optional in this direction, although patience and a certain elevation of tolerance is essential. The trail starts at 8368 metres at the Whitney Portal camp at the end of a road paved with Lone Pine. The trail is a maze of parking lots, as in the summer months, are almost always filled to capacity. This is part of the forest where black bears rule, but the bash in the windows of parked cars and steal what they find. Hence, the frequent flights that transported people are aggressive plans for the temptation to leave the hearing. I feel relieved when they go in the desert and take-out of the country. Since the path is over 11 miles and 6000 vertical feet on the ground to crown the summit, a gradual way, but not too low. White pine forests slowly given way to granite exposed during the first 7 kilometers, and base camp is an aggressive and rocky climb to Sierra Crest. I developed my father and his friend Tom, two avid hikers at the end of 40, before the Trail Section steep switchbacks affectionately call 100. I want to lose count after 75. Most hikers complete this trek two or three days hiking trip, but Dad, Tom and I are going to do in a day. Sierra Crest is marked at 13600 feet, which is already higher than I walk. The altitude puts pressure on my lungs, and I feel a vague feeling of drowsiness was raging in my head, but my heart is pumping. The trail along the ridge behind the huge rolls summit. You fall in May and fall of 2000 metres, but the immaculate path that help to prevent. Thousands of years have taken steps in a good rhythm in the rugged mountains At the moment I work up the runway, but never mind. I am a hiker who climbs to see, not conquer. The green and gold of Sequoia stretches along the horizon. Deep Blue lakes glisten under a cloudless sky. From there, you can almost see the depths of Death Valley - the lowest point in the USA, and only 90 miles from this point. Papa and Tom is a way forward time you end up in height - a gradual ramp at the end of levels. This is the top - floor, spacious, designed to close a large capacity. A number of about a dozen people who are scattered over the mountain. We plop beside a geographic marker - Latitude: 36? 35 x; Duration: 118? 17 'x, it is said - and resolve some lunch. We have a great view of Lone Pine - 13 miles east of Yosemite National Park, a vast desert of Nevada, Sierra Nevada extends over the horizon. A strong wind whips past my head and limit the endless talk. If I turn my head against the huge drop in the East, I feel almost alone. Almost. They say that if you want solitude, go elsewhere. If you want to see the spectacular top of Americas largest and brightest, go to Whitney. Getting there: From Los Angeles to take Route 14 to U. S. Highway 395 north of Lone Pine, about 200 km. Turn west on Whitney Portal Road. 13 miles to the trail head. Permits are required for this hike, and is a little difficult to obtain. Call Inyo National Forest, Mt. the best places for migration route
Have you ever seen these species documentaries that show the masses of wild animals swimming in a river that is the shadow and sometimes dragged under enormous crocodiles or drowning because of fatigue and a heart? And what do wild animals through security and not spent the last hurdle because the bank is too steep and slippery with mud to reach the summit, despite this marked a great effort to do so. All this is part of the incredible migration wild animals who participate each year in the Serengeti and Masai Mara game reserves in East Africa. The best places to see the programs as described above is the corridor of the Grumeti river in western Serengeti, because this is the first major river hordes of wildebeest to cross in their search for new pastures in the north. And the huge crocodiles are waiting ... The second and last major river they need before crossing now is Masai Mara Mara Reserve and is also an excellent viewpoint from which to watch the drama play. But something few people know is that there is another part of the wildebeest migration that is so amazing to see how real the march northward. And this year foaling approximately 400 000 calves wild animals especially in a period of three weeks earlier this year. It is also an impressive vision and the best place for this experiment is the southern Serengeti in February. You will also see a variety of predators such as lions, hyenas, leopards and cheetahs take this Bonanza food. Timing is everything
By Wildebeest migration
So how can a million wild animals to just disappear? It is a question which is quite often asked by people who will see the Serengeti migration, but now the wrong time, and can not find the vast herds. The answer is that millions of wild animals is still there, but covers a large area in the plains of the Serengeti, so it only seems that there are fewer of them because they are not willing to ground travel north. So how can you be sure to achieve the right time? It is very difficult to predict when the migration takes place, because it depends on rain. And the rain comes at different dates each year, but it is possible to make a rough estimate based on past events as if you were in the centre of Serengeti in April-May to begin to see moving north-west to the areas controlled by the Grumeti. In June, they are doing their death-defying swim in the river Grumeti and shortly after that, in August trying to ford the river Mara, north, get fed grasslands Masia Mara in Kenya. In November-December, migration begins to move south towards the plains of the Serengeti again pull on the new grass that grew there in the middle. Top

The Price of Gas Really Doesnt Matter!

The good news is that there is no reason to cow in the corner of the RV trying to avoid the essence of coconut, says Carol White, author of life on the road trip of a lifetime? Travel one year, the cost of living at home. If none of us are pleased with the new reality of gas prices, this is not a reason to cancel their travel plans, especially if you anticipate that the dream vacation of a lifetime. White, who with her husband Phil, took off and traveled the country for a year during their holidays-Way class B mobile home, you know something more than a little about how much it costs to travel on a long period of time. When the budget for their trip initially planned with an average of 1.75 dollars per gallon of gas. When they returned, 37500 miles and a year later, the average price is 1.56 dollars per gallon. They paid more than $ 2.35 a gallon in California, and as little as $ 1.22 in Georgia. Although some RV owners are concerned about fuel prices, additional cost is only a small part of the equation and not a crucial issue, said David J. Humphreys, president of recreational vehicles industry associations (RVI). For the majority of owners of recreational vehicles, the advantages of RVing? As greater flexibility, control and comfort? Oppveie rising fuel costs, he concludes. The gas prices fluctuate like crazy then also, and was not sure what expect, but we came to know that the price of gas was not to prevent escape and see our great country , Confirmed Carol. We knew that in all of travel, this will not be a deal breaker for us. In practice, to an average of $ 1.56 for the year, represent only five per cent of our total budget and is only our fifth largest expenditure, said Phil. Carol was to update the information we recalculated our actual budget, using $ 2.25 as the average price during the same 37500 miles, and only moved to the coast of eight per cent of total costs, and even if the fifth increase in expenditure. Phil and Carol go into details in his book not only on budgetary concerns, such as gas, but also of potential travellers advice on everything from what to do with his house and cars, how to manage relations then that ido it, what to do with the mail, bills and investments. Whites, who are certainly optimistic about encouraging people to move from dream to action, when describing laughter most often the question: How can I be travelling with him together in a 24 / 7. Phil associations unabashed answer when he suggests, a teacher of these two little words yes, dear from the beginning! He spoke on a good note by adding, you really learn to support each other on their day off, as you have. It is much easier than at home, because there are only two of you, without external influences to take into consideration. You really get to be a new two children, and it is very amusing. His last advice? Do not let gas prices keep you from life on the road trip dream. You never forget or set aside the time that you use to explore your fondest travel ideas? Is this a trip that spring, a sailboat trip around the world, a trek through Asia or hiking through Europe. The planning basis is the same regardless of the destination? and the White Paper is ready to help you plan the trip of a lifetime. Going it Alone: The Waterfall at Mendenhall Glacier, Alaska

I was on the point on the balcony of the Centre Visitors to the Mendenhall Glacier in Juneau, Alaska. Before me was a beautiful scene. Breen is reflected in the large lake. Ooh, Ahh. Both the left and right are the mountains. It is a beautiful clear. I've also seen people walking around taking pictures and watching the landscape before us and shows that the centre, a few metres away. A constant roar of a wine high and full of water on the right side of the glacier. Once, the glacier has covered the waterfall. Nobody is aware of his presence before the retreat of glaciers. I looked more closely at the bottom of the waterfall. Apparently, there is a sandbar and people walk on it. With my binoculars, I charted a course that must have had in me. He crossed large sandbars are separated by streams and covered with bushes. I found the general location at the beginning of the route. Ranger and told me it was a way out, but it is not official, and it is a little steep, at any given time. I decided that the best way to see this beautiful place was about, so I decided to try. My mother and my husband was with me. I told them I wanted to prove the road, and wondered whether it was just drag and wait for me, because it will not be with me. When I left the bushes. Immediately, I had to fight against along the steep slate covered with wet brush. After a bad roads and try again, I found myself on a large shrub covered with sand in the direction of the cascade. I jumped a little brooks and drew my way through the lens. My last obstacles were climbing a big rock and then go through a 20-metre-long operation, dotted with well-placed steps. I went up to the roaring waterfall, and even climbed onto a page with large stones. A foot of the waterfall has been found with a large cloud of mist from their base. I went along the width of sand around the middle of the water and found a large rock sitting. I had a drink, enjoy being up in this incredible place - surrounded by the sea and surrounded by a glacier, a large waterfall and mountains. I meet people as well. Some children were growing much more than I had in the mountains. A gentleman from Germany took my picture, and I took a photo of two girls on her own adventures. After an hour of drag I returned. By checking the river, climbed mountains, then waits for hikers emerging from bushes to find the best way back. A couple of times I had to stop and wait for new walkers, so I can find his way. The sun was setting, floating icebergs were sparkling in the lake, and I had every moment of delay. While my trip took about two hours - worth every moment. My husband and my mother was very understanding and said they liked the visitor center and nature (which comes with me through the telescope!) I'm glad I had the courage to take a long time. It would have been easy to simply make the trip planned, and not take risks. William Shedd once said: A ship in port is safe, but that's not what ships are built. Why Should You Use Hiking Poles?

Why should you use hiking poles is perhaps the first question can be found in mind especially when you are a beginner. To get the correct answer to this question is necessary to consider two things: namely, security and comfort. Hiking poles are intended to balance the sticks that help maintain a balance which is closely linked to their safety and comfort. When you use two poles to move as you have four legs, so that a better comfort and safety. Experts say the aid of walking sticks that change 4x4 driving with his two legs and two hands. Regarding security, a couple of circuits poles helps prevent frequent descent in the fall of dangerous tracks, avoiding the pain in his ankle or knee or back, and here is the comfort that the item whether walking, as a step to maintain the right attitude and pace of using both legs. Even if this is your personal preference and an individual decision to use hiking poles, but can be very useful for you during their trips. You must use hiking poles especially when you're in the first round. And I think that the next time you are going to give these sticks with you to see its innumerable benefits. Thousands of people have already been used (or even help you!) Hiking poles for many years could not be bad, and that is why we are treated as centres for the traditional way of moving on the path uncertain , And at the same time maintain good stability. Although, hiking poles have many advantages, but below are some of the benefits that we apply to use them when we come for tours and visits
security
Security is the most important reason for the use of hiking poles. Hiking Poles, in the fact that the two legs to maintain good stability on the roads and dangerous when crossing difficult terrain or fast water. Without hiking poles may fall until the end of May in injuries and accidents, they do not, even then, the pain in the knee or ankle is a mishappening May facing you. When you are hiking poles with you, protect yourself by preventing the fall low, measures that can lead to bad sprained ankle or knee. In fact, safety and comfort are the main reasons for using these hiking and trekking poles. Let other advantages and benefits of their use.
weight distribution-
or hiking poles to help us reduce the weight on his feet and legs. The modern design advantages of hiking pole weight evenly across the body instead of legs. According to one estimate poles can reduce 15% of the weight of his legs in the spread of arms and other body parts. Acting as his legs and, therefore, also bear some weight. Especially when you're climbing a steep hill, poles bears much more weight than in normal times the percentage increase weight May. Pacing
-
climbing a steep hill, hiking poles is more useful to pace himself. I have personally seen their profits to pace my steps. To be sure, hiking poles can easily speed up the acquisition of its weight and allowing it to maintain a good stability. You can keep the pace without having both Huff and hojaldres (it goes without saying more sweat!). Ultimately, you discover that you have won on the runway without a lot of work that really hurts. Of course, you do not feel pain in the back because the poles can go in a natural position.
Comfort-
hiking poles feels comfortable because you can go to his natural position, while climbing a hill or down. His hands also remain in a comfortable position, something else is better than his hands still above the heart that is comfortable and also beneficial because it improves blood circulation to ensure less stress on the body after visits . Numerous research studies and the results have proven his heart, orthopedic and other health benefits as a result argue that not only improves the circulation, but the heart is also said to be reduced. A study in that regard was published by Dr. G. Neureuther in 1981. Therefore, almost all experienced and seasoned walker or hiker who actually implemented, and asked others to join them. In last but not least, the use of poles for hiking trail riding is a bad decision at all because they have many benefits and uses, but that does not mean they did not 'disadvantages. Experts estimate that the use of poles can increase your total energy expenditure in their hands are no longer hands, but will be in addition to both legs when you are using. In principle, his arms are not designed to support the body, or distribute the weight, but do other things that are expected to use their hands to open the map, take a drink, eat a snack, wipe his sweat, to attract branches of a tree to pull you forward, to take a photograph, or sometimes to keep your partner. There is no doubt that these things are not possible or practical when you're hiking poles in their hands and will be relatively heavy, sometimes slow and frustrating for them. Well, here are some restrictions on the use of walking sticks, but only an experienced hiker knows that these limits itself is very limited. Of course, they can be overcome with ease as they grow and mature with them. But most of the time it is generally observed that many people do not know how to use them properly and how to correct. During these excursions buy poles, to be more elegant, modern and function below the poles, but not knowing how to use them properly to reap the real benefits. For example, buying adjustable hiking poles with a compass and equipped with a camera assembly, but not even know how to adjust to the proper length. Accordingly, the majority of the population receive little or no benefit, but add a few pounds of weight in his backpack to put more weight on their backs. But in the true sense, it is necessary to educate and know themselves, with their walking sticks and the right to use techniques. Then you will see that only a few books for its packaging, but helps in many ways. In reality, less Hiking Pole is ideal for the game that packers are very short and return to their homes sunlight. Visiting Plitvice Lakes National Park

If any place on Earth is a natural paradise, Plitvice National Park in Croatia is the place. Of the eight national parks Croatia, Plitvice is the oldest and most visited. It is easy to see why. Bjørner and the wolf is hiding in its primitive forests, schools of silvery fish dart through its rivers unique beech trees are a cacophony of chattering birds. The crown jewels are translucent 16 lakes with an impressive number of waterfalls. Mix the Plitvice National Park published in a recent visit, I could not help being aware that this exceptional site is a war zone during the disintegration of the former Yugoslavia. Located near the border in Croatia with Bosnia and Herzegovina, the problems in the park began in 1991 when the Yugoslav army seized the park and turned into an army barracks. The Croatian army in 1995, but a year later, the effects of war was everywhere. The area around the park is a nightmare landscape of bombed homes and farms abandoned. Flåten three hotels was shot to pieces and part of the lake system was shut down, while experts removed the mines falls and the forest. At the heart of the aura of pessimism, I go to the park, which UNESCO has designated World Heritage site. Even with only half the park opened, I was before admission. Thousands three times in the wound, low and close to falling. From encouraging bubble two metres long walls laced with foam, waterfall was everywhere. I decided to return one day the park was rebuilt. What happened was that my shop back to the Plitvice this year took place at the end of a long and harsh winter in central Croatia. Even if I had visions of quiet lakes under a bright blue sky the weather was cold, wet and foggy. But humidity is good at Plitvice. Among the melting of snow in winter and rainy days, a large portion of the park was a roar of bodies of water. Water pounded in the swollen lakes, bridges and flooded splashed over the trees. It was unbelievable. Even better is the lack of other visitors. Within nine years, Plitvice National Park, Croatia became the most visited tourist attraction accommodate some 750000 tourists per year. Of almost all coming in July and August. Tell people to come in spring and autumn, if I can guide begged. The recently renovated hotel is fully booked during the summer and corridors are elbow to elbow with a camera click. Despite the lack of green spaces in summer, rose quickly to assess the trees bare allowing unobstructed view of lakes and waterfalls. It is clear that the lake system is divided into four children and twelve upper lakes. The success at the entrance, drops river Korana a torrent of water 258 feet in a pool of foam that starts near the bottom of lakes. Located at the bottom of a canyon, narrow lakes below are lined with steep limestone walls and climb a grand staircase in the upper lakes. More extensive and surrounded by dense forests, lakes are at the top of a bed of dolomite. At the top, black and white are the rivers that water taps park. The high mineral content of the lakes, explains his extraordinary colors, ranging from a day of light green to deep blue. Guest crystalline waters of Upper Lake, I realized that the leaves and branches are placed in the bottom is to get a metallic coating. It was the travertine process in action. The water absorbs mineral dolomite at the top of lakes and shields plant makes a porous travertine stone. The new eruption of travertine and moss plants that petrify again, and the process repeated. All the barriers that separate the upper lakes is composed of travertine and evolution increasingly shape. For Plitvice, there is no reason to stay long enough to pass travertine, but the park deserves more time than normally receive. Located some 85 km north of Zadar and south of Zagreb, many people rushed to the park on their way to or from the coast. You can see a number of waterfalls in three or four hours, but you need a number of days to explore ways. The three-star hotels Jezero is the best park, three hotels, but there are a number of small pensions and private rooms in villages around the park. If you are traveling with children, so you want to pencil in this area dates back to Clark's Trading Post and The Whale's Tale attractions - both in Lincoln en route 3n. A Clark can be seen bears, a steam train ride, climbing towers, and generally keep the little self-satisfied. I can not find a list of all the stops to make, but I will mention only two of my favorites in this region of the White Mountains. The channel was created gorge over 200 million years ago, when White Mountains is the molten rock. It is happening in this area when it cools rapidly, flexible material has been forced to fractures that form. Boondocking America

Boondocking is fun! Boondockers go where they want, when you want and the speed whenever they want! If you are a member of one of the wheels (low) or other groups who want to boondock single RV'ing at least part time. Boondocking provides almost a perfect way to see America for small housing costs. He parked in the street in small cities and explore the whole city has to offer. (Get me tell you about two weeks I spent in Williams, Ariz., one night!) I loved libraries, bars, restaurants, parks and know that the number of stores. Cities take advantage of my expenses and I would be able to see out-of-the-way places across the country. Boondocking take the preparation of contingency plans, however. Electricity is the first necessity. Most of us have solar cells on the roofs of our recreational vehicles. These groups serve a purpose and one purpose - to recharge the batteries in our house. As a general rule, you should prepare a solar panel for each house of the battery in its platform. Be careful not to add batteries without having to add solar cells. This its panels do not provide the load, and you still have low batteries. In addition to solar cells, many of us have a generator at the back of the pick-up or installed on our platform. It is therefore possible that we sometimes air conditioning or microwave oven and recharge the batteries. The problem, of course, is that the generators are noisy and cause other campers nuts. Have portable electricity generation, it is necessary for propane heat, water heater, stove and refrigerator. All platforms are equipped with the necessary funds propane tanks and most of them have a refrigerator that works on power when you are connected to a country and the gas when they are not connected. Check often propane. You will find that only you missed propane in the cold tonight at 1:00 AM Finally, the water must be transported. Many full-time trying to move with a minimum of water to save weight. I prefer to have a full tank when I leave the way for an indefinite period of time. Now, when you camp? Almost anywhere you want! K-Mart and Wal-Mart parking lots are favorites on the road RV stop-overs. Some cities have laws on the use of these masses, but it saves them a general rule, to us. They have space and are not as empty parking lots. Any use a lot of money on them when we stop and give us an unofficial custody for stores. Please, if one of their parking lots, not dropping its platform or extend its slide-out. They often spend a night or two to stop a truck. They have always plenty of space, but my problem is that I always park next to a diesel engine that powers for an unknown reason, the maintenance of the Damned truck running all night. (If someone knows why they do, please let me know.) If you can put up with noise, it's always good food in their restaurants and lots of air, water and fuel for their journeys. In the road rest areas are also good places. I talked to a number of boondocking women and almost all have expressed fear of rest areas, but nobody has been a problem. After trying the rest are all appreciated the fact that other passengers are around the company and protection. Clean bathrooms and pleasant places to walk their dogs is high on their list of reasons for using highway rest stops. Many of us are members of fraternal organizations that provide low cost for members of camping. The Elks, Moose Lodge and the VFW is a good number of these organizations. Use it! They want to meet and have frequented their clubs. Find a place to discharge may be a problem for some. Not me, though! I have often thrown into an RV park and asked if I could discharge. I've never been rejected! In general, paid about $ 5 to discharge and fill the tank with water retention. A dump a week is enough. Finally, I like when I travel Jewels. Sunsets are nice when you share! I love the company and the protection of friends with me when I travel or stay at a place remote control. Take another low and try boondocking for a week or two. You fall in love! Jack Matlock is a new and unique full-time RVer is enthusiastic support RVing lifestyle. He began his RVing with a small pick-up and a tent camp Coleman. Currently, a 33-foot fifth wheel 5 with three sorties slide. As one Jack soon learned that we live in a society is mating. While the RVing community Basa see a couple. I wanted to escape in a world where you can socialize with other people. The search for a group of campers who wanted to share their unique coffee hours and fishing trips. No player professional basketball wants to leave his career without having done Champs Elyse? It is. And all had dreams of winning the Tour de France. Some. In the context of the current edition of the Grande Boucle two players were tested before the victory, and hope to do so again. Favourite, and record keeping six times champion Lance Armstrong of Austin, Texas to face Germany Jan Ullrich and the other 187 riders from 28 different countries. On July 24 the winner of the yellow jersey will be announced. When asked who would benefit Ullrich replied: the best . The Tour de France is not as great as it is, without the millions of fans around the world. Most people see the Tour on television and, of course, you can see all the spectators on the roadside by encouraging their favourites, especially in the climbing stages, in which you are wondering why not more accidents happen. Fans in front of the way, do not want to miss some of the riders and often do not return until the last moment has also influenced the outcome of the stage. Not seen on television is that thousands of enthusiastic assets to continue to ride on the Tour de root. Venus around the world, people come to France and ride his bike to the same scene technicians have lived only a few days, a few hours earlier. Some of them return each year. Not everyone can go uphill, and still enjoy yourself. The rest of the holiday season is dedicated to finding their own way, camping, boasting a large number of what France and the rest of Europe has to offer cycling. Bird Watching Life Lists ? Keeping A Record

If you are a bird you want to maintain a list of observations of birds to see. His life lists should be updated every day to observe birds. List of living life list is a register of birds that have undergone over time. Normally, the list is kept in a magazine. Each entry of birds, date, place and all the notes you want to add. According to the exploits of birding, can maintain a comprehensive list of separate lists or as you deem appropriate. For many birds, a list simply life is not enough. So how can break their lists? Here are some ideas: 1. House lists? A list of birds of vision and around the house. 2. The annual lists? A listing of every year, you see the birds. 3. Lists of the state? A list of special observation of the state. 4. Lists go? Magazines specifically for bird watching trips or vacations. 5. They wish lists? A list of birds that have not seen, but we hope so. You only have to cross in front of them that the comments occur. Computer Life lists, you can buy life or computer list of programs on the Internet-use forms. Each program is different, but most come in the form of a checklist. You enter information and application despite their list. The problem with the use of computer programs? As a result, the computer aspect. Unless you're willing to lug around a laptop with you, it will be a gap between their observations and journal entries. Using a computer program is also problematic if you want to maintain a collection of sketches of some species have highlighted. For most birds, a computer list is a good supplement to a magazine, not a replacement. Bird watching is a very personal passion. If only the beginning, May you think it is not necessary to maintain a life. The problem with this approach is, of course, that I apologize for the decision later if you decide to do so. All these observations are ido over time? If you are going to start bird watching, be sure to feed the list of the magazine since its inception. As I like to say, to preserve the experience!
